I just picked up Tamiya's Dragon Wagon. I'm building it to display my Tamiya Pershing on. I thought I was impressed by Tamiya's FAMO w/Trailer!! The Dragon Wagon eclipses it in detail and work to be done by a long shot. This will be one long project.

Does anyone out there have any hints or tips for me to keep in mind while building this thing? I have plenty of beer so that won't be a problem.

Hmmm, I too have that beauty, and am still collecting just a couple more AM kits for it. I plan on going all out with her!!! I wish I could help you out on the hints/tips thing. I'm sure I could use a few when the time comes. :-)

I'm on uploading some pics...

Man, a list of things I did to my DW would take a long message. I built mine long before aftermarket sets came out - resulting in over 300 extra pieces. That was quite a project. I'd have to grab my notes and see if I can condense them into something more manageable.

All the extra effort did pay off though - I was fortunate to win 12 awards with it before I stopped lugging it around (3 Best of Shows)...

Hi Sgtsauer,

I've built one too a few months ago. Some Eduard PE parts were added on it.
I know there's a review with pics about building the Dragon Wagon: http://www.cueballweb.com/~worktop/enter.html
Hope this help!

I am almost finished my DW. It is beautiful. Sabot gave me some very good advice which I followed. Basically, follow the instruction sheet and do it step by step. It works. I built mine straight out of the box. Tricky to put the cab over the interior detail. You put a lot of time and effort into the cab and then cover it! For the trailer, I assembled then painted. Tamiya provides a lot of block and tackle extras which look great when placed in various parts of the vehicle. All in all a three month long project worth every minute of the time. Look at Gunnie's work. I downloaded his pictures and used them as a super reference. If you have not gottent this one, I urge you to buy one. If you have it, I highly encourage you to build it. Great model.

I don't have the model, but I want to get it. How much does it typically cost?
For anybody building or planning to build a model of this giant, I strongly reccomend you go over to PcModeler.com . Mark (the site creator)has been adding tons of reference materials, among them is an album of 61 pictures of the Dragon Wagon. There's lots of good detail shots in there! See the Dragon Wagon reference album !
There's a lot of other reference pics of AFV there too. Check it out!

I just got word from Canada that mine (that I got in a trade) has been mailed! I can't wait for it to arrive! I traded against Italeri and Revell Germany kits worth about $100. I don't know if that is a fair price or not, but the D.W. costs $180 in my local hobbyshop! So to me, this is a great deal!!!
I have a photo somewhere of a D.W. hauling away a Panther. Perhaps that is the place for my Dragon Panther A? :-)

Check out the May 1999 fine scale modeler. It has a little review of it that has a couple things you may want to watch for. If you don't have it I can make you a copy and sent it to you. just send me a personal message with your address if you need it.

I just need a few more AM kits and I'm ready to go! I figure around the holidays as we tend to spend more time indoors with the ones (and things :-)) we love.

I've built one and it's a gem. Just treat it like it is four kits: the cab, the chassis, the winches, and the trailer.

I wish I had gotten the Eduard "Interior" set, but otherwise I think it holds up pretty well with a bit of TLC. You can add things to the suspension and the winches with wire and a bit of plastic (strip/rod/sheet).

A great reference is Allied/Axis No. 3, if you can find one. It also has reference for the FAMO with trailer.
