Hi Karl:
Your Tiger looks great. I really like the paint job and the weathering. If you have answered these questions before, I apologize, but could you (1) tell me what the base green color is? and (2) how you painted the camo. pattern?
Keith

It took me a few goes to get the green basecoat, but its a mix of Tamiya flat green, dark green and a hint of light blue.I applyed maskin tape cut to shape for the camo and the rings are painted free hand.cheers (1) tell me what the base green color is? and (2) how you painted the camo. pattern?

That is quite a unique camo job. Does that exist for real?

Hi Karl ..nice job on your camo scheme ..Your weathering looks very well done..congrats!..Alan ..Yes this camo did exsist on at least one KT ..It was a very late model with reinforced front fenders and 18 toothed tracks..along with many other late features...If you want I do have a picture of it on my hard drive I could post it here if you'd like to see it ...

Karl, I like the model, the tracks are good too but as this beast moved a lot on roads I'd say the road side faces should be a little brighter - just my opinion mind.
Now the rustling you can hear is me donning my flame proof overalls just in case someone takes offence.
I'd say - no it isn't. I'm an old modeller (I'm 47) and these sort of 'ambush' schemes only started appearing in the 1990's. My old collection of books from the seventies don't mention 'em.
Now if that means that they were only used on the Eastern front - and thus only came to light after the old Soviet records became available - I'm wrong.
I suppose it's possible that some SS unit had a fancy scheme on one or two tanks, but I'd like to see some photographic proof - not line drawings in books by the way. I've never done one myself - but I'd like to know one way or another.
This isn't meant as a knock on Karl - he's done a good scheme, but I'd like to know his references.

I seem to remember this scheme shown on one of the color plates in the King Tiger Osprey book. Can someone verify that? I'm not at home to look. Kit looks great by the way.

Just a little more info on this big cat. As Karl and Rick have already said, and shown with the pics, this was an actual scheme. There has been quit a bit of discussion about this particular Tiger II, especially on the Axis DG on Missing-Lynx. It has been unofficially dubbed the "Octopus camo" Tiger II. Apparently it was a one of a kind scheme. It was picked up from the Henschel factory by the crew in the final days of the war in Europe, and saw some action near Kassel Germany. Aside from the two pictures posted & linked to above there are several others of it floating around, including one color shot that unfortunately I haven't seen, but that several reputable people have described. I have read that it is being held by a publisher (or writer) for inclusion in a future book.
Cheers,
Mike
Edit: I forgot, Nice job Karl!
