Just curious on peoples recommendations on Tiger I books in print. I am not really happy with the ones I have on my shelf and I was wondering today so I thought I would ask the question.
If you could own one Tiger I book (has to be in print and available) what would it be?
Please post titles and author since I am sure many of us will want to check out your picks. It can include the Tiger II but my interest in the question is mainly the Tiger I.

OK, I'll bite. I know little about the Tiger but I would probably get the modeler's guide to the Tiger. It would give me some basic knowledge about the Tiger (nothing too in depth) and also help me add detail or get over rough spots during construction.

As Rob said, "The modelers guide to the Tiger Tank", by Pat Stancell, publisher; Ampersand Publishing Co. If you want to go more in depth and get more into the technical aspect, then the bible would be "D.W. to Tiger I" by Thomas Jentz & Hillary Doyle, publisher; Schiffer Publishing, ISBN #; 0-7643-1038-0
Cheers,
Mike
edit: I forgot one, "Building the steel-wheeled Tiger I" by Angus Creighton. You can purchase it through the Tamiya web site. An excellent modeling guide for building the late steel-wheeled Tiger I's, it also has a lot of good techniques that can be used on other projects.

There are great titles out there. The Creighton book, the MMIR Stansell book and the Jentz book. May I offer this one?
Achtung Panzer #6 which has extensive detailed drawings of all types of Tiger minutae. Also covers Tiger II, Jagdtiger, Elefant/Ferdinand. For US$30, how can you turn that down?

Gotta agree about Achtung Panzer#6 and MMiR suggestions. I have both and they are with out a doubt, very good books. They cover a lot of ground for the unknowing.....like me! "Q"

I have to agree with the titles so far but I'll add a bit of fuel to the fire and say I wouldn't give up my Tigers in Combat I and 2 by W.Schneider. but for building info I'd have to say the Actung Panzer for me. Lots of bang for the buck.

Slightly but why does VLS only charge $17 for postage while Squadron charges $25 (for the Ampersand book)? Do they deliver personally by limo?..Jim

Your welcome, I thought it was an interesting question. I think Achtung Panzer #6 is on my gets list now.
No idea on the postage rates I personally have always felt postage was a black hole down into which money flows especially when I was living in Canada.

I hae just ordered the Ampersand book from Hong Kong. Slightly more expensive, although the postage is an awful lot less...Jim

I've got tons of Tiger 1 books. But when I want the straight poop on vehicle set, detailed differences or history I turn to Tiger 1 by Uwe Feist and Bruce Culver. They don't give you many colored paintings (you can get that from Squadron or Osprey) but you can see all the inner workings and parts comparisons in photographs
