Well, maybe we need to make a few rules......I'm up for anything, but here are my thoughts.
Gunny, I consider you a professional, and can always learn from you, but I need several years to catch up.
Let's keep it simple, and cheap. Maybe keep it OOB
Stress basic and some advanced techniques, I'm a PE rookie.
This might be an opportunity for some to write up a feature.
I'm open for any and all suggestions, Lets keep it fun though.,
Your comments are appreciated
John
Thanks John! OOB works fine for me - I'll actually get it done this decade!

I really have no ulterior motive...I just don't like the Italeri gun tube.

As far as the HUMMER is concerned, pretty much all of us can agree that these kits can use some work. Like John said, "stress some basics and some advanced techniques". This would be a perfect kit to do so.

Bob--from whom did you get a replacement gun tube? If we commence this worthwhile project, I also want to discard that crummy gun tube.
thanks

Okay, it seems like we can agree to one thing.....we want to do a group build.
I'd say that we should build OOB, but add little things.....NO AM...but I do like the idea of an elefant barrel....it works out to be about 5.00 USD....
I'd like this to be a break for some, and a challenge for others. Maybe submit to the rivet review board for help. The main point is to have fun together.
Not all of us have the skills to build professional quality models, nor do we have the money or time to max out on the aftermarke, hence the no am rule.
There seems to be an interest in all 3 models, so lets just do it. Lets just say that we start on 1 October and include all 3. we can branch off if there is too much confusion .
I'd like to suggest this though, through our postings on progress, we submit a few tips and tricks that we know. Anything that will help our fellow modellers produce a nicer model.
Whaddaya think?
John

Jim,
Thanks for quickly placing the poll on line.
John,
Sounds good to me. I ordered my $6 Italeri Sherman this morning. Why don't we start one post for each model in the Rivet Review Board forum and then people can post their pictures/experiences/tips in the forum for whatever vehicle they are building?

Whatever you do, DON'T USE THE ELEFANT BARREL FOR THE M4A1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Yes, I'm yelling. I bought that piece of crap barrel for my M4A176. It's a direct copy of the kit barrel, so it has the steps in aluminum!!!!
That kit needs a new/fixed barrel, don't repeat my mistake! It's a complete waste of 5 bucks.

I will set up a group access folder on the
Armorama/MSN site as well. You can post pictures there and bring them up in the RRB but remember you need to do the following:
Right click on image for properties. Where is says Address(URL) click, hold, and drag down. Then you will see the URL is too large for the space provided and actually goes down farther. Just copy and paste from the .jpg part at the end.
Now...the BIG question is will the project actually drag me out of my kit building retirement?
Cheers,

Ok! I just saw the post on the Sherman. So who is in on the HUMMER and which one. I have the AVENGER sitting on my floor.

I got both the Sherman and Hummer sitting out on the floor waiting for the majority to rule here too...

I'm gonna do both, maybe all 3. It'll keep me busy while the glue dries
I figured that we could have them going at once, then if confusion reigns, start to go separate ways.
I think that we should try to include as many as possible.
The poll Jim so graciously put up is showing a tie between the panther and sherman.

What is OOB?
What is AM ? Aftermarket ?
Why not just say pick one of the 3, that way everyone will be happy. I myself have the Panther A on the way because I want to stick with same type of armor. (easier on the wallet as far as paints go since I'm having to buy as I go) Although, I wouldn't mind building a hummer.

OOB = Out-of-the-Box, build the model as it comes with zero (to a little agreed upon enhancements) changes to what's in the kit.
AM = Aftermarket. Could also stand for "ArmoramA Madness"...

I would love to participate in this, but the only build interest that I have is the Hummer. The Avenger Hummer to be exact. All I have been building is German WWII tanks. To take a break from the German stuff, I am building/finishing a Tamiya Pershing and I would like for my participation in this to be a little "out of the ordinary". I've been eyeballing the Avenger Hummer for several weeks and this would give me the perfect reason to buy it and build it.
Is there a consensus yet on what the kit will be. I really like the idea of a modeler chosing one of the three.

Hmm...well it sounds like we have enough people that one or all three of these kits could be group builds. The poll shows an even 11/11 between the M4A1 and the Panther A.
Just a thought.

Then, I say just call it an Italeri Armor Model Jamboree and open it up for all three. The truly insane can build all three, and the rest can jump in with the one they like the best! At any rate - it sounds fun.

This sounds great! I haven't built a kit in some time and this just floated my boat for some reason, kinda like building with a bunch of friends or something. I am getting the Sherman tonight. Can anyone with some experience explain the group build concept a bit more completly?

Idea here is that all who want to participate, and have the ability to post photos in the threads, will do so to share their progress and experience(s) building the model from start to finish. For those without the photographic capability - they just build the kit right along with everyone else, and post their progress and thoughts into the threads too. At the end we should have swapped a good deal of information, thoughts, and photos along the way. Everyone would be working the same kit(s) and building them pretty much as purchased - to migitate Advanced Modelers Syndrome from kicking in.
Imagine - there could be a dozen Shermans, a dozen Panthers, and a dozen Hummers when it's all said and done.

Sign me up for the M4A1 (if I can find one). Since AM barrels are nonexistent here, I have to go with the kit barrel. Is the step in the barrel really that bad?
This will be my first Sherman! :-)

Sorry Guys, As much as i would like to build another Sherman, I will have to bow out of this build. I will have no house so to speak after the 8th of October until sometime in late November or December. I am going to try to join Penny's Pro-Modeller Aircraft build the first of the year. Good luck to you all on this one.
