Ola Jim

I could unleash some Photoshop tricks and design some banners in my Free time. I don`t se ebig problems with that.
IS it something in which we have free hand (with this I mean normal banners without Explicit content of course.)

Let me know I`m more then happy to make some things and let you decide if you wanna go with it or not

Robert,
Yes you can "get creative".

Also if there is any duplication of work, we will just put both banners up and see which one people like best.

Thanks,
Jim

Ola Guys

Well I actually already showed this to Jim S. but I also wanted to post it here. The banner in this case is for the Figure DG, Period WW1. Let me know what you guys think of it

Actually I for one would love to see duplicates of some of the banners. Just to see what kind of ideas other people have.

Perhaps if the number 1 was replace with the upper case letter I (Roman numeral I).

I agree on the 1 to Roman I, otherwise it fits. And maybe a mention of Figures in a corner. There are multiple WWI categories. I like what I see, 91 more to go!

Since this is a community, I decided to incorporate a number of models from various members into the mix (if anyone has a problem or copyright issue, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I am more than accomodating). Here are three more I worked on and the updated Beginners banner"

Ola Guys

I changed the "1" to an "I" and made the letters a bit smaller then what it was before that. Look a bit above.

Then about adding the word figures in it. I don`t think it would need that especially when the other WW1 banners are well thought out and well designed. Think of it. With WW1 AFV`s you would expect a tank, WW1 AC you`ll get Wingy Thingy`s, So with figures you`ll get Figures. So I think the image on the banner should explain exactly what type of forum you`re looking at.

I want to give some feedback to the banners you designed. I`m not trying to attack you but more wanting to give feedback from a designers point of view. The 2 Banners I like most are The Guntrucks banner and the Diorama`s for beginners banner. The first is quite stylish with that original pic of a guntruck. ( at least I think it is an original pic otherwise you did a hell of a job with Photoshop or any other Photomanipulating program. The Dummies one is just clear. Exactly what you want. Everyone that is visiting that will know it is the beginners forum for Dio`s. The Water effects banner is ok. I especially like the font used. A nice curved font which definately fits with the water subject. Where did you get the picture from? is it from someones dio or is it real water?
The AA/AT/Artillery DG banner kinda screams what it is. A one colored font for all the titles would already make it a bit easier for the eye and it will also tell in what DG you are. Also maybe toy around with the pictures you used. Make some parts halftransparant and have them overlap the other pics. I don`t know yet how I would have made it. But you sure are on a good path there.

And yes 91 to go :-)

I see that Animal has already volunteered for "Softskins".

Not that he needs it, but I'd be glad to help him out.

Faust: for my reply.

1.) I see your point about the WWI banner and agree. Thanks for clearing it up.

2.) My knowledge and technique of Photoshop is on par with about every amateur: try something, keep it if I like it, click "step backwards" if I don't. The Guntrucks banner is of a photo that Animal has in his gallery. Nothing was done to it except cropping a copied image and resizing. (yes, Dave, by all means you can use it; technically it is yours just with words)

3.) The Beginners banner was my first I try for the banners thus far and I like what I made.

4.) The watereffects is a cropped image on the Water Effects page. PlasticBattle did it a while ago. You can actually see the building reflecting in the top right corner.

5.) And the AA/AT/Arty: personally I hate it. It isn't bad, but given the difference of colors, a single color is not really possible. I had the idea of one of each subject in a rule of thirds format, but it kind of fell through. I am going to work on it and pretty much redesign it. I have a Graphics Design major helping me out along the way, so I am in good hands.

Thank you very much for the very constructive criticism. These are going to represent Armorama for some time and I want them to look good, so the advice is much appreciated. More to come, so stay tuned.

Also - Faust, email me any of the banners you plan to do so we don't cross over. Thanks
Jeff

Hmmm the only one with one of my models in it and you hate it, thanks seriously though, I think you do great work. If you ever have some spare time and need something to do I would love to have one made for me.

Hiya Jim,

I woul dbe happy to throw into the mix as a "host". Now it all depends on how fractured you want the DG's to be, but I would be happy covering Modern, or Eastern Europe Modern, or Russian/Soviet Modern in the armor DG.

I would also be happy to jump into the figures DG as well, but as for how to split that DG up... It could be broken down easily, but I am not sure it would help with attracting more viewers. I suppose I would be good with the Modern Figures or sci-fi/horror/fantasy stuff...all depends on how it plays out.

Now, can anyone help out with a Modern Russian Armor banner? Please?

Now to sabotage Treadheads area...snicker snicker... (Where did I put that anti-helicopter stuff?)

Here are new and modified images. These are the final image, so enjoy. Jim, feel free to use this at your leisure.

Jacques, I am in the process of working on a Russian armor banner. In the next week, I'll try to have a new batch out.

For those wondering, the other banners I am working on include the following:
Russian/Soviet (Armor/AFV)
Early Armor

WWII - Japan (Aircraft)
Early Jets
Modern - USA
WWII - Great Britain

And all the events, shows, and meeting DG

These are the initial ones, with FAUST and john17 working on others. My objective is to get the big ones out (armor, aircraft, warships, figures, dioramas) and then work on the smaller ones

Ola Guys

Well I finished another one.. Mighty slow working on this but that is more because I spend a serious amount of my time looking through the Internet and selecting pics and fonts for these banners. The one I just did is for the Armor/AFV WWII Allied DG

Not too sure about the Stencil font although I don`t think it is Ugly it might change... Depending if I find a better one

I would like to ask your help here. Looking for a bunch of Good Vietnam/Armor Pictures but Also Personell on Patrol or something like that. If possible good quality (Big) pics. Does anybody out there know a good site for that.
Further I`m looking for good pics of Knights.

Looking forward to Feedback on the banner and all pics or sites are welcome.

Wow. All I have to say is mighty impressive banner work everyone. For what it's worth, we paid someone at work to design our website and the work you guys are doing gratis here kicks our website in the butt.

Again,
Impressive.

Ola Guys
Just finished another one.
It is for the Early Aviation (to 1935) DG. I`m quite satisfied with this one as it is as easily is seen a combination of 4 pics in one banner. I gave it a little blue color so it would fit the AC forums. (I also did this trick to the Allied Banner (With a little push in the back from Jim :-) :-) )

Let me know what you think of it. It could be that I made some mistakes as I`m not a man with a wealth of AC knowledge and all the pics I found looked pretty pre 1935. IF I`m wrong I would really like to hear that.

Jim have you thought of anything for the swabbies or history geeks? I'd love to help out with a DG on Warships, either history of or modeling of, or history in general.

Rodger,
That would be great. We could start a history/reference DG in warships. Or would one of the existing modeling DGs serve you better. Let me know.

Sorry lads,

I hate to rain on any parade, but I suspect you're running into serious copyright infringements with this banner

I'm almost 100% sure "...... for Dummies" is a registered company trademark, even the colours and the figure are the same...

I'd check that carefully, we don't want Jim to get taken to the cleaners over something like this...

Yes I didn't want to rain on Jeff's fun but I would definately not be able to use anything like that.

Well, I've finally gotten around to starting the banners. Here is the first one out of the chute. I used Gino's figure that he is currently working on to represent sculpting. Gino, hope you don't mind.

Let me know what you guys think.
