Hi all!
I have just finished my current project and will start my F4U-7 Corsair soon! Only three weeks left until dead end! That'll be a challenge!

Silantra,
Looking good! All you need now is a carrier deck catapult for launch! :-)

Hi all!
I managed to work on my F4U-7 French Corsair this morning! I so far painted the interior parts, build the cockpit, assembled the airframe and the wings and glued some additional parts (flaps, bomb, rocket rails, external fuel tank and some exhausts). So far it's a nice build without major problems! I hope it will go on like that!
Maybe tomorrow I'll start with the painting!!!
here are some in progress pics:
I used the kit's decal for the instrument panel to speed things up and it worked surprisingly fine! The radar screen in the middle of the console shouldn't be on the French version... but I will do as if I haven't noticed that! :-)

Hi all!
Seems to be nothing new on the "Air over the Sea" front! Am I the last to build something for this Campaign? I feel so alone...
Anyway, I managed to work on my French Corsair. I sanded the whole plane and glued all the detail parts together (landing gear, rockets, flaps, engine etc...) I even managed to spray some Testor metalizer for further weathering (see picture) and polished it a bit.
Next step will be spraying the French blue Navy color and some paint chipping...
Am I really the last one?

I'm still with you!!
Was a short week on a holiday but I'm back and had to put on my sunglasses for your Corsair!
Looks great! I'm looking forward to the final result!
I'm 'working' on my Revell Hornett. That is; it's stil waiting for the blue paint to be sprayed on. But I think I can finnish it in time.

Hi Paul!
Good to hear from you again! I feared to be the only one struggling in the sea! Thank you for rescueing me!
Hope to see your Hornet finished soon!

I'm still struggling with the water.... Getting the right effect takes ages (if I ever get it right, that is). Then again, the research forces me to spend most of my vacation by the sea... :-)
Besides, I'm probably going to be disqualified anyways. Further investigations regarding the the Saab S 17BS shows that even if it did replace the S 9 Hawker Osprey in its role as naval reconnaissance aircraft, it never replaced the S 9 on the aircraft-cruiser "HMS Gotland". Test showed that it was simply too heavy!
Heck, I'm gonna finish the model anyways, and if you kind people find it in your hearts to award me a ribbon, then so be it!!! And if not... - well, I had a rough day as it is!!!
Hey, Jean-Luc,
That plane of yours looks awfully nice! Is that Suez-campaign stripes???
Cheers!

Hi Polarbear!
I didn't knew you were still working on your Saab diorama! Hope the researches by sea weren't to difficult!
By the way, you are too honest! you shouldn't have said something about the real story of your plane! Nobody would have asked for it! An if a seaplane isn't qualified for the "Air over the Sea" campaign, well I don't no what kind of plane would! I have no problem accepting your entry but I'm not the boss on this one... but you surely deserved the ribbon for honesty!
About my Corsair, Yes I'll do it with the Suez Campaign stripes! But I don't know yet if I'll use the decals for that or if I'll paint them...
Jean-Luc

Hi all!
My Corsair has received his colours!
After spraying several coats of dark blue and a heavy coat of future, I masked the fuselage and wing stripes and painted them the typical Yellow/Black colours of the Suez Campaign.
I also made some paint chipping on the model.
Tomorrow will be decals time!

Hi Jean-Luc!
Ca-va?
Your plane looks so good! Real sharp waspy stripings!
What masking tape did you use?
I was working on my Hornett today, but the tape pulled of the white paint
Ah, well, I did wanted to practice it, so I must not be hard on myself if the result doesn't satisfy me the first time.
I'm used to paint / spray 1:35 AFV and tanks.
Airplanes are so much different. Like my sharp lined blue and white Hornett in comparising with an olivedrab and muddy tank :-) But it's fun to learn new techniques.
Have fun tomorrow on your decal time!!
Bon Nuit

Hi Paul!
Ca va trés bien! Merci!
I used Tamiya masking tape! Even with three coats of paint and one of future, some paint did go off with it! Fortunatly you can't notice it by all the paint chipping! :-)
Tomorrow will be decal time like you said! That's really a fun part in the modelling process!
Good luck with your Hornet!
Jean-Luc

Beautiful build, Jean-Luc!!! Looking foreward to seeing completed it with the French markings. I must say that there is something special with the Suez conflict aircraft. Some of the most beautiful props and early jets around! And you've got to love those stripes.
Actually - if you're still considering a new aircraft campaign, how about "Suez stripes"? Heck, even I would have to build something other than Swedish aircraft (however, some of the mustangs used by Israel during the conflict were bought from the Swedish Airforce...). I might even try the over-sized 1/48-scale!!
Cheers!

Hi all!
Brian, I must say you are a great Captain! All is clear and well organized! It's a pleasure to serve under your command on this Campaign!
Some news from the Suez front now: I just finished the decal job on the Corsair! I didn't thought it would be that long! Seems the French do like literature very much because the plane is stenciled everywhere! There are hundreds of them!
Anyway, here is the result so far!
I have still some work to do on a few parts (see below) and then it will be weathering time! I can't wait to spray the big exhausts stains on the sides!
Tomorrow I'll have a busy day so I think next update will be Tuesday! Good luck to all!
Jean-Luc

Hela Brian!
Don't forget me! I'm not in your list!!
My finished 1:72 Fairy Seafox is in the 4th. post of this forum and my Hornet I'm working on at the moment was mentioned in the 18th. post (although, actually the Hornet is an 'illegal' entry because it's to small in scale. Acroding the rules it may not be smaller than 1:76...)

Great job on the Corsair Jean-Luc. How do you do your paint chipping as it looks really effective?
Posted: Sunday, July 31, 2005 - 11:04 AM UTC
Hi Andy!
I posted some pics previously on this thread so you may check them for the paint shipping thing! But basically I sprayed a coat of Testor's Metalizer first, I polished it and gave the whole model three coats of Tamiya dark blue acrylics. Once the paint dry, I used a sharp tool to remove some blue paint and finally "Futured" it! Voilà! That's all! Nothing too difficult in fact... you just have to work step by step!
Jean-Luc
P.S. By the way, what did you do with your Seiran floatplane? Is it still covered with "winter" camouflage?

I remember reading the thread, but i;m having trouble getting metalizer paints.
As for the Seiran its been pretty much stripped back to the plastic but the dreaded carpet monster ate a couple of bits i dropped. At the moment its being used as a testbed for various paint chipping effects.
I'm doing nearly the same technique as yours except using flat aluminium instead of the metalizer. I then futured it twice before adding the I.J.N green. Haven't got round to chipping it yet though so i don't know if it will be successful or not :-)

Hi all!
Here is my French Corsair fresh from the factory! Well, not that fresh when you look at the pics... :-)
I'm not a weathering specialist, so that's why I made some experiments and maybe it's a little bit overdone... Let's say the French ground personel was a bit lazy during the Suez Campaign!
After one week of hard work it's time to make a break! Hope everyone will get finished until the deadline!
