Hey Jean-Luc!

Looks very good my friend! I think it is became a convincing and very realistic model and I enjoy watching the pictures of it.
I like the weathering and don't think it's overdone. For as far as that mean someting because you know I'm more a tank modeller, so I just love weathering and dirt :-) :-)

That's one awesome airplane, Jean-Luc!

The markings look great! The bird sure looks rough enought!! I guess it had to, given that the jet aircrafts were taking over the skies!

Welcome back Mike!

I'm glad to hear you are okay. I hope you have some time to join us and maybe finish a project?

Jean Luc,

Your plane has to be one of the most realistic looking F4U's I have ever seen. Exhaust stains are one of my weaker areas, tell us (me) some more about how you created them please.....

Hi all! Thanks for your comments and support during the build! I hope to see you on other campaigns guys! It was really fun to share some time with you all!

Andy, in 1956 the Corsair was a mature lady, but she still had some very convincing arguments to come with! :-)

Brian! I just turned the motor on and let it run for a few hours! :-) More seriously, I sprayed a coat of grey and then a mixture of diluted ochre acrylics. It looks convincing because of the typical fuel stains of the corsair! I put some dark brown paint and blow on it to simulate the wind... The Corsair is really a "good client" for weathering.

Happy you are back Mick! I don't know you yet but the Campaign idea is yours, so thanks for that!

A bientôt! Jean-Luc

Hello everyone!

USNavy 2534 has some in progress pictures and commentary on his SeaHawk Helicopter on the rivet review forum. Check it out and give him some feedback.

In other news we have a award ribbon for the build posted in the Campaign page. This is an reproduction of the US Navy Air Ribbon. A fitting award to honor those who have served in various naval air arms.

With such outstanding models being completed or already finished I'm itching to see everyone elses work.
You may have noticed the camapign time line says August 31st now and not the 15th. Someone politely asked for some extra time and it was granted.

However it is my desire to see as many of us complete are models by the 15th as planned which will speed up the award process and clear the topic so we can participate in other group builds.

The goal is to have everything wrapped up by the 31st. awards and all.

It's an honor and privilege to serve you.

I'm happy too with the extra time. Although the 1:144 Hornet is just a fun entry, I like to finnish before the end of the campaign. The extension gives me a free night tonight
BTW; 1:144 is really small. I'm gonna finnish the kit, but I can't say I like it very much.
Non to crude details and the fitting of the parts is so bad, even when it was a 1:32 scale plane.

I was going to enter the super-detailed F/A-18F that I'm working on, but that's going much slower than I'd hoped, so I threw together an old Testor's Dauntless kit that I had in the stash.

It actually turned out much better than a kit that old and horrible has any right to. The kit itself only has about 10 parts, and I was mostly using it to experiment with new techniques. This was the first kit I used Tenax on, the first I used Silly Putty for masking, and the first time I have used oil based paints to do panel lines.

The panel lines came out darker than I'd wanted, but I'm now sold on both using Tenax for gluing fusealge halves and using Silly Putty for masking on complex shapes.

Hi Joe!

Old or not old, you did a great job on your Dauntless! I suppose it's a 1/72 kit? The way the engine and front cowlings have been molded is funny! This kit really has this 60' flair!

This kind of "experimental" builds are important to try new techniques! I also have some "low budget" kits in my stash and build them from time to time... for the fun!

Thanks Paul!

I'm discovering that I'm happier with the results from making cheap, old kits more than new, expensive kits. I think I'm just more relaxed when the kit only cost $6 vs $60.

Tenax is a solvent type glue, similar to Testor's liquid glue. The main difference is that it's much thinner, almost like water. Since it's so thin, it can work its way into gaps between parts that are already in position, which is great for things that you want to get lined up perfectly before applying the glue, like halves of a fuselage. It makes really strong bonds very quickly.

Its main drawback is that it's so thin, it can really make a mess of things if you use too much. It'll melt plastic pretty easily, and drips can distort surface details.

Joe, thanks for the answer about Tenax. I'll put it on my shopping list!
BTW: 'Amen' on your statement about cheap old kits! I agree! :-)

Hi
Here is my entry for "Air over the Sea" a 1/32 scale MK IV Royal Navy ( or FAA if you prefer) Corsair FG-1D KD164.
I used Trumps F4 and really only chopped off the wing tips, made a new floor, added a few scoops and used Techmods Corsair II decals and there you have it...well sort of.
Anyhow hope you like, feel free to comment or critique.
Cheers
Joker

Joker,

Nice very nice..........................good choice of markings to. I Always wondered what would have happen if Corsairs (American or British) and German fighters ever tangled.

Hi Brian,
I'm fairly sure the Corsair was not used in the European theatre when in service with the Royal Navy (maybe for carrier trials?, early in the war, I'm pretty sure the Brits used the Corsair as a carrier aircraft before the US did, but someone may correct me on this),so I think you can safely say that Corsairs never (never say never!) came up against German Fighters. But again I might be wrong and I'll buy it.
The Royal Navy used the Corsair against the Japanese and this particular aircraft KD164 was flown by 1850 Sqn. off the HMS Vengeance in 1945.
I used the FAA website as a guide and various refs that I've found over time.
Thanks for the kind words, it is a very cool colour scheme and I've wanted to do this 32 scale a/c for a while.
Cheers
