Howdy All,

Real quick...it's been pointed out to me that I have been getting my feet way too 'wet' lately in regards to my modeling endeavours, so.....in an effort to squelch these heinous rumours I submit for your consideration another truck-based Campaign/Build.

Below you'll find a handful of pics, both WW II-era, and Modern to {hopefully} get your juices flowing. I suppose the bottom line is; if there's any interest this idea will grow wings.....if not, we can all drink a toast to a good idea gone unattended.....

Here's the pics....
This first one's of a captured British Scammell Pioneer R100 6 x 4 Heavy Artillery Tractor serving with the German Wehrmacht aboard a railcar. What's of special note is the rare evidence of the German late-war two-tone/three-tone camoflage scheme.......


This next one's of special note because of it's configuration. It is again a captured British Crossley IGL8 with a Coles Mk. VI crane mounted truck in Wehrmacht service .......


Now, on the modern side, here are a couple of photos from Iraq showing in living colour some of the more interesting evolutions of the term "GunTruck"...

First one up is this Darth Vader looking FMTV vehicle which appears to be of flatbed configuration when this photo was taken. I'm not quite sure how efficient this type of applique armour would be visually, but I must say it certainly looks meaner than a junkyard dog!


And finally, an actual Iraq based Guntruck, using the 'Biggie' sized M1070 Super HET as it's platform. Now this one's cool ladies and gents!!.....

It would depend on the start date - I have some small scale truck conversions in the pipeline that were going to be in Miniature Magic, but I have enough to enter some here as well! I'll be around to them in a couple of weeks so I'd be looking for a start around then?

Did someone mention trucks????? Count me in.

No to be fair it should be for all trucks of any nation and any time period. Something based on the last 'Move It' campaign would be ideal. I think also with another rule that states that Photographic evidence must accompany each entrant.

This means you pick your pic (LOL I'm a poet too) and build the model according to the pic.

What do you lot think of this?

Thx for the interest, I'm sure it warms our good 'Roo's heart to hear it.

To answer Rotorhead's query, the idea I had was to build a truck that had something different or odd about it. Trucks have been used for SO many purpose's I thought why not build something out of the ordinary rather than the usual run-of-the -mill cookie cutter truck.
That was my thought, but if the populace feels that's being too off-the-wall then I surrender to your trusted judgements.....

I included truck variants from both WW II and Modern just to show that those of us who specifically focus on Modern would not necessarily be left out of a more narrow-casted build.

Anyway......those were my thoughts.......anyone else have an opinion?

Oh and Cliff, I'll see about scanning some of those 'Gerry ' owned and operated British truck photos.

Hey, hey, hey, I very much like this idea. We had a great turnout for Move It - in fact one of the highest ever! As a sequel to it, I think could be a big hit! The only thing is that there would have to be a lot of publicity because new/inexperienced builders might be turned off as they might think that converting an ordinary truck model (like the real thing) is out of their element when that may not necessarily be true.


With your permission Gordon, I could head it up? I really loved finishing Move It and have always wanted to start a campaign. If you think this is a good idea, let me know. If not, thats just as fine (it is your idea after all).

Unintended Trucks

I may join as well......but I must watch it I don't join too many campaigns!

So....I'll see if I got time once the campaign is running and I may join if I can finish something.

Btw, is a half-track like the Opel Maultier also allowed?

One of these das we need to do a 4x4 group build. Any four wheeled (not necessarily 4 wheel drive) vehicle. I'm thinking along the lines of Jeeps, Kubels, Land Rovers, Hummers, etc.

This may be dificult in some cases such as one conversion I have in mind - it's based on a verbal text, but from a recognised source. This rule would I assume mean 'no pic, no entry'

I would favour an open campaign similar to 'Move It', as this would encourage new modellers to softskins with OOB builds.

I would be up for a 4 wheeled vehicle group build. I know I have several jeeps, Hummers, horches, kubels, etc. in the stash.
I have been fighting the stiff, vinyl, CA resistant tracks on an Italeria T-34 for a week. Something with wheels sounds refreshing about now...

good idea but it misses the 6X6, 8X8 and all other wheeled vehicles.

I propose the following.

Campaign name - "WHEELS"

ANY softskin vehicle with 2 or more wheels. Any era, any nationality.

NOTE 1 - NO tracks allowed...so sorry Opel Maultiers and other half tracks are out.

NOTE 2 - SAS Jeeps guntrucks etc. allowed

All entries must have documented proof with them. Either a photo or written 'official' document proving they existed.

All must have been originally designed as a personnel or cargo carrying vehicle.

Dates to be confirmed.

Jeff I am happy to let you run it and You can design the ribbon as well.

So how's that? Are we on or what?:-H

I would be game for a "Wheels" campaign, too. That said I would also be up for a 4x4 group build. I think group builds are woefully underutilized. I don't need a ribbon, just a good excuse to build something I might not have...

I am especially drawn to the make something different with a vehicle. As already stated Trucks were used for so many purposes there is for every truck plenty of options to built.

Quite frankly......I dont think Cliff needs a campaign to give him motivation. The man is a machine. Always banging out the neatest, new brainstorm of a project. A TRUE MODELING FANATIC!!!

Well, my resolution is to cut back on builds because I don't finish them. So I think a max of 1 vehicle, 1 aircraft, & 1 ship for the coming year (post-IPMS Nats) -- and I've got a lot from this year to finish up. I'm signed up for Dreadnought and that's a big resin/pe effort.

Anyway, I have lots of trucky-stuff in the stash, so probably will join in. The start date & time frame will determine what I do. Theme is probably not an issue.

I would be interested in this campaign too. I have a kit in stock so I am good to go.

I think the start date needs to be far enough in the future to allow everyone to finish or get close to finishing up other projects, and collect what's needed for this one.
