Hello again campers! Some more progress pics for your evaluation. I have completed the repositioning of the cow - not as easy as I would have liked as it is made from vinyl. IT has been painted, dirtied, and set in the stream. Water has been added - not yet set. It will turn clear. IT is water effects from woodland scenics.

That's cool. I like the cow. How's the rest of the farm?

Very cool John, that looks great. You better hope no one from PETA is on this site, they will hunt you down like a dog, and throw red paint on your model for simulating animal abuse!!!

The quality of the castings is high, but like I said they are 100% vinyal - not even that DS100 stuff. So moldseams are a tad difficult, and repositioning was a bear. In the end I used a pyrograve and literally melted the cow into a new position.

Cheers!

Hey, Sticky, looking good, but how'd that cow die? What about some bullet damge? Or has she just fainted at the sight of such beautifully modelled grass? :-)

Great Job on the cow...i really hope the water clears as it should. I had a bad experience with the water effects...took about 3 weeks for it to completly clear.. Great job...Can you explain a little more about how you did the repositioning...??

John, the cow and water look great so far, I know how long it takes for the water effects to turn clear and I look forward to the shots. I really love the cow and will check out that set from squadron. Next question are the flies still in the mix? I look forward to seeing that done. Very unique dio you have going here I am very impressed.Cheers Kevin

Hey John! Me myself and Irene like it!
:-) :-)
Seriously though, would there need to be some flattened grass where the bovine tumbled?
Water is looking great also. I assume it is a brook or stream and you have modelled the flow by the looks of it?

Hi Dave, let's just say the cow expired from fright. I'm not a big fan of gore in a diorama - even if its a cow.

Hi Mary, I have set it on top of the furnace and it overnight is has turned significantly clearer. To reposition the cow, I just turned the heat up all teh way on my hot knife, and cut the cow at the neck, and under the two upper legs to make them all sag down. I also used the hotknife to remove the mold seams.

Hi Kevin, yes I am still going to give flies an attempt. I have some super thin clear plastic sheet Im going to use for the wings. Just how big is a horse fly in 1/48?

Hello Brad, Brad and Irene. Yes a good idea to flatten the grass a bit. cows do weigh alot. I will add this in as soon as the bank is finished

Cheers all, and thanks for taking the time to comment, much appreciated!

I love the way the water is flowing over and around the cow - nicely done.
One thing I noticed was the cows eye- it looks open.

Thanks Slodder, yes the eye is open, but i have glazed it over with a grey filter. Eyes do not always close in death.

You are right - the glaze will work. I just wasn't sure if it was an oversight. Especially with a huge amount of focus on the reshaping and water.

If the cow had been dead for a while, you could have the legs sticking out stiffly as it gasses up inside...

A perfect finishing touch to this diorama John. It looks like you photographed a quick stream with a very slow shutterspeed, the sense of movement of the water is great. Although Carl's comment regarding the legs going stiff is right, with the cow lying in the water against the bank, I don't think it's a problem. You did a very good job with the mud ( well, let's call it mud :-) ) on the bottom half of the cow.

Cheers

this really is a sweet little dio John..I really like it. I could not find one thing out of place. It all seems to come together and the final result will be very eye catching. Great work John.

Thanks guys - Though I think you all are acting a bit COW-ardly, making jokes about a poor deceased bovine. :-)
