Hiya, I was just surfing the web when I stumbled across this place called Digital Dioramas.com They've got some cool stuff so far from what I've seen and while looking around I found this article on that had fire and smoke. I didn't want to copy anything because of the copy right issues so I'll just link you to the page and you can have a look at it yourself. I think the fire looks pretty neat here. You can click the smaller photos on the web site and they open up bigger to see more details.

I hope I didn't offend anyone here by making people aware of this site, if I did, its ok to edit this page with upsetting me. I meant no offense.

That's easily the most effective smoke I've seen, and from a distance the fire looks OK - when you get closer it lacks some of the luminescence you might expect in fire...

Still, I'd be proud if it was my work!

Sam Garcia also used this technique in his Iwo Jima diorama. Here is the link to one of the photos.

I agree its one of the best looking smoke ive seen awhile.

I can help but mention that no matter how good the smoke is simulated, it just makes the rest of the model appear somewhat (if i may) "cartoonish".

What i mean by that is, the model is typical done so that it looks very realistic but the minute smoke is added, the realism just seem to fade away.

agreed the smoke is great but the fire i did not like as much as the smoke. it was not attached to the rear deck in some spots. but over all good. best ive seen in a while.

THe smoke looks fantastic. However the flames look like a bunch of upside down carrots!

Ola Guys

Although mister Garcia did a good attempt on recreating fire I still have to say That I`m not that wild about it. It still looks exactly as what it is... Clay. It doesn`t have the "life" that real fire has. The Smoke is well executed and the flow of it is very good but ..... still it lacks some reality.

I think Smoke and Fire are rspectively the Yeti and the Loch Ness Monster of the modelling world'

Like others I think the smoke is done very well.

The fire I just don’t like. It looks like giant worms crawling out of the tank.

The smoke is a good effort, but the fire? Apart from the obvious 'snakes' shape, it seems to be coming through the armoured deck plate, rather than the airintakes/outlets... A good diorama otherwise.

Cheers

I think the fire looks great from afar, and I think it's a damn good effort. A lot of modellers seem prepared to abandon the whole smoke&flame thing as being impossible to do, but I hope people will keep at it and find a method that looks realistic.
