Martin, you lucky bastard!!! :-) :-) :-)
I know the feeling of opening that HUGE box filled with goodies. A bit overwhelming compared to the usual 1:35, or what? Anyway, congratulations, and I'm looking forward to see the progress with your Pershing.

As a matter of fact no, Martin. I just like the big scale and all the parts. I s**k at driving the beast. For me it is the building which is the fun part. I keep my RC Armour at work and they are only driven on request from my coworkers. (Usually Friday afternoon, just before beer call) :-) :-) :-)
Cheers

I've had mine for almost 2 months now and haven't even looked inside!
Thanks for the preview and goodluck with the build!

I built mine a couple years ago, and the one warning I can give you is be very picky about wire placement. They need to be routed correctly under the speaker box or the deck will not close properly.
I had to tear mine apart 3 times until I got it right (and I ripped off the rear bulb in the process of one try.
Have fun with the build...

Nice!!
I'm strictly a static builder (for now anyway, call me a purist), and I've been patiently waiting for Tamiya to release this without all the electronics.
So is this project starting right away, or is it further down on the to-do list?

I have to agree with your comment. wire placement is critical. I ran the engine wires through the speakers to keep them out of the way of the gears, and it's also a convenient place to stor the excess cables. Another tip is for smooth operation of the main gun elevation is to stretch the spring, this keeps it from getting bouncy.

1 day shipping has clearly got to be the fastest ive heard of although the distance is not exactly very far.
How much assembling is there for RCs compared to 1:35 scales?

On average for Tamiya R/C tanks (especially the Pershing which is the most difficult) and depending on the modeler, 50 to 100 hours to assemble and paint one color.

Well it's much more complicated with working suspension etc....lot's of working things which need to be taken care of! and lots and lots of screws, not only glue :-)
So it's much more work...but also much more fun :-)
Hilbert, there are 49 steps in the instruction book, with a total of 32 pages.....but this of 1 RC step as 4 1/35 steps

Martin:
If you're going to run it, one thing you're gonna want is the better idler-wheel adjuster made by Schumo-Kits. Instead of just a 8-sided adjuster, they make a splined one that fits inside, allowing about 3 times more settings. Beats the initial 'too loose or too tight' options for the track.
There are a whack more suggestions for RC mods, but unless you're gonna run it RC, I'll not bother getting into the whole thing.
My M26 is getting close to done... hope to have some pics up soon.

Try to put the wiring on a 'diet,' so that there is plenty of room for battery maintenance and turret operation. Get rid of the Tamiya connectors and either hard wire the motors or use Dean connectors. Some tankers even use aftermarket speakers glued to the top of the hull and eliminate the stock speaker to gain more room.
Here's an example of plenty of room on a Pershing build:
http://www.tankace.org/album2_042.htm Removing the stock speaker alone (although will change some tone qualities of the tank sounds) will gain a tremendous amount of room.
Just another example! Good luck with the build!

Andy,
Click on the banner for Backyard Armor on the left of the screen, there's a gray Tiger I image.
