..."kit" that is{this is a family site ya know!}. I'm finding myself thinking back to the old kits and remembered my 1st one...an old monogram snap-tite tiger tank{found one finally on ebay two weeks ago with the whole 74' line up flyer and it showed my old snoppy sopwith camel kit I had too}. I was..."younger" then, but it was an armor kit!{hey, ya gotta start somewhere, right}.
What was yours?!

My first ever model kit was one I built with my Dad I think back in Grade 2. I think it was an MPC snap together car kit. It was fun but didn't really get me interested in models.

The first model that got me really going was a 1/48 Monogram F-14 Tomcat kit for Christmas when I was like 13-14 or so. That got me really hooked and I started building aircraft models for a couple years or so.

One day in my LHS I got looking at the armour stuff and bought the Italeri Willys jeep kit. I fell in love with building it and how it looked. The first tank was shortly after when I built the venerable Tamiya PZ II kit and I became an exclusive armour modeler.

That continued till I got out of the hobby for almost 10 years as I had other interests to pursue (beer, girls, etc )

But I am back!

I started out with Airfix and Matchbox 1/72 soldiers and planes in 1981. Then there was an italian company called Atlantic which made WWII kits (they were supposed to be WWII but they were'nt that realistic) and Antique era - greeks, romans and egyptians.

My ever first 1/35 kit was Tamiyas SAS Jeep back in 1984. SInce then I've never made any 1/72 kits.

My first kit was a box scale F4U Corsair. I was about 5 (1964) and have no idea who made it, but it was smaller than 1/72. My next one was the ancient Revell box scale F84 Scorpion, I clearly remember the raised spots for the markings. A couple of days later I took it to school for show & tell, but being Newfoundland, it was blowing a gale that October day. By the time I had walked the 200m to school, the wind had taken the wings and made them clap, splitting the fuselage in half & pitching the rocket pods on the ground. I was a seriously pissed little boy, let me tell you. :-)

My first fully painted and completed solo was a P-40N by Monogram-Revell (?) completed August 2003. The paint scheme was never applied to P-40Ns. I like the scheme and decided to use it anyway, and have since said it is a model of the P-40Ns used for filming the movie Pearl Harbor (since those were my references anyway). Made mistake of gloss coating the whole model, decaling, then dull coating the WHOLE model. And for the life of me I was so dang confused as to why the canopy suddenly fogged over. I then made the mistake of carefully scraping it off with an exact-o knife. This time I got lucky and barely escaped destroying a relatively decent model.


The wheel supports have since collapsed the plane and it is awaiting repair.

My first model was revell's 1:144 scale F-16. It came with a plastic brush and two tins of paint, black and white. The year was 1996 (if I don't remember wrong). The smell of newspaper ink and turpentine immediately brings back memories of building this kit.

My first kit was a 1/72 Frog Fw 190 which I painted with same blue paint which my father was using to paint our holiday caravan. My first armour kit was, I think, the Airfix 1/72 British WW1 tank. I think one of the reasons I like seeing kit bashed kits before they are painted is because they remind of the Multicoloured Matchbox kits I built as a kid.

my first model? 3 years ago, a M4A3Sherman tank. I think it was Italeri's. I still have it #:-) #:-) .

Ah yes, my first model kit. I was about 7 and it was the Aurora Creature kit - built in a couple hours with gobs of glue!

First armor was the Monogram 1/32 Sherman Calliope 'Screamin Mimi' with those great Shep Paine diorama tips. That's when I was really hooked!

Ah. Just a short trip in the way back machine. My first kit was the old Tamyia moterized Tiger I.

I remember my first time like it was yesterday. It was boxing day 2005. I was at my kitchen table and I opened the box of the DML Jagdtiger kit no 9036. What a kit. I amstill working on it.

my first armour was bought by my grandfather for christmas, he brought me shopping to a hobby shop, my first time in a hobby shop it was tamiya m4a3 sherman with 105mm howitzer, nice kit. ever since i stoped building planes, well i tried to continue but i just dont have the motivation anymore my second tank was tamiyas tiger 1 late with iny tracks, then i built the pershing(tamiya) then a churchill(tam) then a jagdpanther(tam) and my latest addition, dragons kingtiger battle of the buldge. Im presently waiting for some paint to finish dmls tiger 3in1 initial...

i guess im still new to armour? its only been 2 years and a few kits

I built my first one when i was 6 years old back in 1966. It was a ja-mar 1963 Chevy Nova Station wagon. And I still have it.

Guess I'm pretty old but my first Kit was a figure kit by Aurora, "The Creature from the Black Lagoon".

My first plastic kit was in 1957. I was an old Stanley steamer car. I can't even remember who made it. I was in the fourth grade at the time. It was during the summer vacation and we had a summer day camp at the school. It was a three room school in fact. It was a very small town in Florida called Osprey. Most everyone who lived there were fishermen or work for the University research center. I guess I have rambled on enough

I built my first kits when I was seven or eight. They were both 1/72 scale Lindberg airplanes, a hellcat and a thunderbolt.
My first armor kit was a Testors/Italieri (or however they used to spell it) 1/35 Leopard 1. I was about 10 when I built it and so dang proud that I was able to make the big leap to more complicated kits like that one so well. That Leo was about to fall apart, I played with it so much, when I gave it a proper sending off in a hail of BB gun fire.

My first kit was the old Monogram Huey gunship. Then I got an Italeri/Revell Russian 7.62cm A.T. Gun and it was on. I have gone to aircraft and ships occasionally but I always find my way back to my first love...ARMOR.

My fist model would have been the Matchbox 1/72 scale Spitfire MkIX that I built with my dad (well he did more of the building on that one). After that came a Hurricane (also by Matchbox) that I built on my own, and many more Matchbox aircraft after that.

My First armour kit was the Matchbox 1/76 M3 Honey Stuart, followed by my first 1/35 kit, the Tamiya M5 Stuart.

I'd love to get hold of one of those Honey kits again one day. Matchbox was all that was available from the local toy store in the early eighties, and they had a really good selection too. It wasn't until I discoverd the nearest proper model shop that I discovered other brands.

My first kit ever was a 1/72 Matchbox Sea Harrier when I was around 13, held together with UHU and selotape. I was hooked.

But if the question is about armour, my first track was the 1/76 Matchbox SP with the 155mm Long Tom(Can't remember the actual name) when I was 15. It came with a tiny vignette base too. Tracks crossing a vegetable field that u could place the SP in, plus an actual shellhole! Wow.

My first model was some kit of the RMS Titanic that I painted orange because that was the only color I could find in my older brothers model stuff (He built model cars).

I LMAO every time I think about that model. :-)

My first kit was a the Revell Hawaiian Pilot Freighter circa 1956-57. Like a few of you I've been capturing some of the kits from my youth on ebay. I just got an original Hawaiin Pilot kit that I 'm starting on with plans to dedicate to my Dad. Like a lot of us, he's responsible my life long interest in the hobby. I only wish he were still here to help me with this one.

Hi guys

Well my brothers led me into this hobby of ours. They were both race car builders back in the 60s and early 70s. When I was just a pup I would mess around with stuff that they would toss away. I don't remember what car kit I started with I think it was a mid-50s dragster. The first "Non-car" I built was a space craft from the first Battlestar Galaictica TV show. That was a Long looooong time ago.
