Hello folks,
Another sunday, another PAK-40-post
The following pics show the progress on DML's PAK 40 I'm currently building for a little diorama-project based on one photo of my grandpa's photoalbum.
The gun was built mainly OOB, I just added two bolts out of strechted sprue on the lower shield. The overall fit was ok besides there are a few issues with the slide and guncradle I described in an extra thread] the week before. Also the rubber tires appear to be a little oversized for the wheels.
The wheels are just dry-fitted, because they will receive a white tarp for camouflage as seen on the photo below. I also intend to add the muzzle break cover on the left trail.
Unfortunatly the DML6250 gun is not not 100% accurate to the gun on the photo(> nose of the guncradle), but I don't wanted to sped additional money on the other DML kit which has to much errors.
The gun will be set up on a little vignette in combination with Hobby Fan's PAK40-crew in winterdress (see photo below). Unfortunatly my order on these figures has not arrived until now...
The name for the vignette will be "Feindpanzer!" (engl. Enemy tank!).
Constructive critism is most welcome:

Hi Patrick, nice build so far! When you say the nose on the nose on the cradle, can you say a bit more? Or do you have a closer pic?

Looks like youre on the way to a nice little dio. I like those figures. Question, If you are going to cover the tires, why not use the "new" tires that came in the kit and save those nice beat up tires for a future project?
edit-btw, how are those figs? I wanted to order the same set for a pak dio I'm working on too.

Vinnie:
I'm talking about the geometrical shape on front of the gun cradle. Don't know how it is called. I ran an earlier thread on the differences between early and late type PAK 40. During my researches I discoverd three different shapes at all. Unfortunatly the one necessary for Granpa's gun was not included, so I choose the one that comes closer. (Link to thread.)
I also saw you building efforts on the PAK. What did you do about fit issue with the rubber tires or haven't you encountered such a problem?
Brian:
I don't have the figures right now. I just placed the order 5 weeks ago, but they didn't arrive at my local hobby store until now. So I can't comment on the figs, but I suppose they are of good quality. Two years ago I built a NAM-Marines-set from the same company and found no real critics.
Regarding the tires, I don't think I could need them without a PAK. The gun should look used, even I one can't see the used rubber tires, I know they are there; just to please my mind
Thx for your comments.

Which kit is that? It looks really good! If you are interested, there is a PE kit available that adds not only brass shields, but brass bolts to space it properly. Lots of other goodies too.

thx for your replies.
as stated above, it's the dml6250 kit that comes with a set of fallschirmjaegers from the italian theater and a few other goodies.
since i already finished the gun shield, i don't think i will need further aftermarket parts.
imo the plastic shield is of very fine quality and thin enough, so there is no need for a brass part.

Patrick, now I understand what you meant. Would it have been possible to add to and then resculpt the kit one? When you say your research found 3 different patterns, why were 3 different ones used?
The tyres from memory weren't really tight, but they weren't so much of a bad fit that they caused a problem, I used the damaged set as I see you have, but I don't think they were as loose as yours appear to be, although I did use the open spoked wheels, maybe that made a difference?

vinnie,
i already thought about sculpting the shape with putty and plastic sheet, but after rethinking i skipped the plan. don't think, that it will look that good. another thought was on buying the old tamiya pak 40. can get it for around 5€, but for this little part 5€ is far to much.
so i think i will leave it with the wrong part.
concerning the wheels: is there a way to shrink the rubber tires to tight fit maybe due to heating?
i will check the fit of the other wheels at the weekend.
