RAFAIR...
NICE, very nice work on the Hasegawa, I was considering this same kit, before I opted for the F-15E.
Right now all assembly is done, It's in the paint shop right now. I have been having trouble with my coloring, I don't know if it is just my eyes or everything is too, TOO, dark. When I try to lighten them up, my coloring look fake....

I am looking into changing some lights over my desk.

To all;
Keep-em comming in ..............

Hi everyone,

I finally started on my Harrier. Here is the progress so far. I am amazed at how cluttered the instruction sheet is (very easy to miss something).

The fuselauge is tricky but a little dry fitting pays off. The braces in the middle are for the rotating exhaust nozzles.

The wing goes together very easy and it has locking tabs that help hold it to the fuselauge. Kinda a problem if your trying to dry fit it.

The copit tub can be installed to the fuselauge and the ejection seat and consoles have nice detail and do not need to be added until the end of the build. Should make painting alot easier. I always worry about masking copits and having overspray somehow get inside.

More to come soon......................

Sincerely,
Brian

latest update on my build...

the kit was painted with Mr Color grey as suggested by two bobs...the cammo is freehanded airbrush... the snake and the lines are the decal. Decal is marvelous..comform well to micro sol / micro set... took 6 repeated of micro set so that painted look is achieved...

the TOW and rocket are painted with Olive drab plus dark green...

in this photo, the large canopy are painted but masked to protect from further work..

to get the worn look, i apply several shades of grey along the panel and lines...

the kit come with the engine ..however in 1/35 scale, i decided to show more details to the engine and the engine compartment..so i remove the engine, scratbuild a new engine compartment...with spare parts/stryene sheet and tube and wires, based from a reference photo, i redo the engine compartment..
but sorry no photos on the engine compartment yet!!

here we go

this is the look 3 months ago..

and this shot is the current WIP

Hi everyone,

here is my progress so far on the Harrier. I figured out a way to mount both the gun and center ordinance pylon. Like I have seen in pictures. I also painted the compressor blades and air duct before gluing them to the fuselage.

Here is some photos:

Sincerely,
Brian

Silantra,

Sorry I should have said this sooner but that is one of best decal blendings I have ever seen. Your Cobra is very nice.

Hi everyone,

Well as things progress I found some things happening The airframe is almost ready for primer. I decieded due to time that this would be an out of box build. So the next couple of I found one I needed to fix, the other two I'll just work around them.

I had heard about this before and it is correct, I don't have the slightest clue why they were engineered with a narrow track, but it would take more work than I want to move them. To solve the problem I plan on putting pilot in and closing the canopy.

I'm hopeful the gaps are not going to be really obvious when the rest of the plane comes together.

Funny thing about the gaps they only occurred on one side, yet everything looks symetrical on both sides weird..................

UPDATE - I couldn't stand those gaps at the bottom of the intake. I grabbed an old hideous tube of Testors contour putty and filled them. This is the most success I have ever had using that stuff. Someone must be looking out for me. I sanded the nose cone as it had a pretty obvious seam. It is now primed waiting to cure and then camo.

Sincerely,
Brian

Hello Air Support members,

I need to put the Harrier build off. A family crisis has occurred and I need to refocus my efforts. I sent an email to Tobar and asking him for a personal extension because I enjoyed this campaign and the progress I have made on the Harrier to date.
I hope this is okay with everyone.

Sincerely,
Brian

Touch down. my entry is Airfix 1/48 Sepecat Jaguar, 'Biggles'/'Pink Spitfire',
During Operation Desert Storm, flown by Sqn. Ldr D R Bagshaw, DFC. but it crashed on 23 Jan 1996 at Coltishall. Pilot was killed after he failed to engage reheat on takeoff and the aircraft struck the barrier.

regardless of the status of the group extension, I will still have to make use of my medical extension for completeing my build for the campaign. Got the cast off my left hand a couple weeks ago, but that hand is still very weak and clumsy. But I have started building on my F/A-18 again.

Imanaged to break off the missle rail on the left wing (grumble grumble grumble)

BTW, this kit has far more fit issues than one of this price should have. if you look close, you can see lots of filler (slightly darker gray than the plastic).

MARINES AV8B Harrier

Hi everyone,

I still chugging away as time and other commitments permit. Its going to be close but I'm sure it will be completed Friday. Sorry for so many pictures but I have fallen behind reporting the progress.

Next three are of the "Office" no aftermarket only what came in the kit.

Model prior to starting the wash.

Wash in place and drying.

Next three taken during and after cleaning up the wash.

I would like to thank Joe S. (Mother) for giving me advise on weathering. Hope you like it, I really have enjoyed this kit so far.

Sincerely,
Brian

Hi everyone,

Well its three minutes to midnight by the clock. I have not finished the Harrier. But it is closer to finishing and that what really counts

The decals are far more involved than envisioned, I spent 6 hours on them alone. The ordance is more difficult than expected as well (TER racks do not match attachment points on the Harriers pylons (I thought the Hasegawa weapons sets were suppose to work for their products?)

I guess I could have slapped everything together at the last minute but it would not do this kit justice. I really want to do a good job on it. I plan to keep posting pictures until I finish it.

Here is some new images,

How have the rest of you faired so far?

Sincerely,
Brian

Ordinance Hanging!

Hi everyone,

I was able to get the ordinance on tonight. I think all that is left is to dullcote the model then place the canopy and navigation lights on and the Harrier itself will be done

I work tomorrow, Sunday I plan to dull cote it.

Sincerely,
Brian

Great.
A lot of work and time, but it was worthwhile to wait.

See you at Aeroscale
