Not sure if I'll be able to do it, but I'll try (Semester ends in beginning of May...). I got an F-14B waiting to be converted into a Bomcat (Black Box conversion) from VF-103 (either YellowHammer Decals "Kate's Nickel" or Two Bob's 60th VF-103 Anniversary decals). We'll see.

To all Participants, Listen-up!

Welcome abort.
As the administrator of this group, I am looking forward to see if all you maggots have what it takes to call yourselves:

"Air Support Qualified."

On a serious note, my hope is this build will bring the modeler to a better understanding of Aircraft and Ordnance used in the Air Support role in these theaters of operation, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

The inception of this campaign was mainly to be FUN as well as Informative. My desire is not only to see the end product, a completed replica of a current aircraft in use, but for the builder to also investigate into the uses of ordnance on said aircraft. Everyone has a basic understanding of aircraft used, but what is it that makes these birds so lethal?
Also, Support aircraft, How many fully fitted ground troops can a Chinook carry?.

My desire is to see either fully laden aircraft with multiple ordnance, "Ready for anything" type mentality (i.e. Laser, GPS or CCD guidance), OR Support aircraft of Ground troops (Medivac or Re-supply).

I would like to thank Brian Fendley, a.k.a "bf443", for all his help and art work.

Already started my project. I will build an OH-58D(R) from Italeri's 1/72nd scale offering. I will then build a dio of it either supporting US ground troops or flying over the carcass of its most recent target (either will be in OIF).

Finally, I got that poster posted...

To all participants;

When surfing, I like to read reviews from other modelers of the process they undertook when building their projects. I find it informative when they explain their issues with a kit and how they overcame them. Pictures are a great visual aid in discribing them and pointing out these discrepancys.
I'd like to see work in process pictures, and if possable, label these issues on the picture. (Photo editing skill do help here... And if anything, maybe it will give the builder a chance to learn some Photo editing skills as well.)

This is my project for this campaign....

It's the Revell F-15E Eagle with Hasegawa Weapons set "D", 2Bob decals, Black Box Cockpit and Eduards Mask and PE detail set.

I've been using several sites for pics and info. on F-15E's as reference, My favorite so far has been www.F-15E.com, Good pics and ref. material.

First things, First.
Here is a quick pic of my "office".
I didn't use the Eduards PE for this, I just cut the card, white glued it, and used 3 coats of Future as glass.

Hi Thomas,

The panels are looking good. I eagerly await the rest of your build. I'm still waiting on the Harrier to show up in the mail. The decals arrived several days ago its an older superscale sheet I am going to use the markings for VMA-214 "The Blacksheep"

Sincerely,
Brian

I have not started my project yet, but got the 1:32 Tamiya F-16 C with decals to build a Norwegian aircraft which supported OEF in 2002. The F-16 will be "converted" to a F-16 MLU.

Hi "bowlpuncher";
The Eduard PE set has a color card/paper, that is to be cut to size with Photo Etch "face" on top.

If you could Imagine:
Plastic panel on bottom,
Colored paper in the middle, and
the PE on top.

The reason I did it this way is because the detail on the cockpit panels didn't look bad. (Except for the missing color CRT's)

Here is a work in process pic of it:

Hi, I need a little help
I have some jets in my shelves. Please, which of those can I use in this campaign?
Or then, in which versions they were used?
F14C, F15C, F16C, F18C
The ordnance I'll research later.

thanx

Howdy Gaucho-
All of the planes you mentioned can be built to represent OEF/OIF birds. I also now that a number of aftermarket decal companies make OEF/OIF decals for all of those aircraft. Welcome aboard.

Gaucho:

HI, your build should be on an aircraft presently being used in the air suport capability in these two theaters of operation, OIF and OEF.

What you have mentioned will work and possably aircraft from allied nations in support of OIF and OEF.

Great,

Thank you again mates. Just one more thing for now.
I would prefer to do an old kit Hasegawa F-15C 1/48 that I bought a long time ago (finally it will go to the workbench).
Then, please, which decal would you suggest me for it?
I was looking for, but I didn't get to find any specific decal for that war zone and that plane.
At least for my little knowledge.

Gaucho, this is all I could find:
http://flightdecs.ca/asd01.html
http://flightdecs.ca/A_dacoastra.html
You have the option to build any F-15 from RAF Lakenheath, which participated in both OEF and OIF. Only down side is that there are no specific aircraft on the sheet from either conflict; you have to create your own. I know its not exactly what you wanted but it is a start.
Hope this helps,
Kyle

Just joined this campaign yesterday. I’ll be building Academy’s 1/72 A-10A (OIF) Thunderbolt II, OOB if there isn’t enough time.

Hi Gaucho,

I did some looking around and I found decals for an OIF F-14B, F-15E, F-16C and F-18C at this website;

http://www.twobobs.net/

There is a book from the Osprey series on F-15C/E units of OIF but I personaly do not own it and have not seen whats in the pages. I hope this helps some.

Kyle, Brian, thank you.
I saw some OIF's F-15C images but the decals for them is too hard to find.
I found a Two Bobs F-16 OIF Vipers decal sheet, that is great. I think my F-15 will rest till another campaign.
Now I'm building a Fulcrum, after I'll do the OIF plane.
Thanx again for the help.

Finally got around to taking pics.
This is where I am at as of today (2-21-06), The date on the camera is wrong.

This is the Pilots console:

This is the Weapons officers console:

These are the completed Ejection seats:

This is the whole office, I will leave off the seats until the end, I don't want to have
any accidents with the seats still in the cockpit.

note; reference material in the background. I got most of my pics from:

Well my entry, Academy's 1/72 A-10A OIF, arrived two days ago, it has decals for probably one of the better-known A-10As, that of Capt Kim Campbell (see:http://www.talkingproud.us/EditorChoice041103.html).

My entry, except for a few minor additions (to make it an actual A-10A), will be OOB. I was very surprised at the quality of Academy's product versus the price; please take into account that the last A-10 I built was Matchbox's.
