a while back I'm sure I read we were due to get some new Avatars...
if I'm correct ...are they coming?

If I'm wrong....for purely selfish reasons...as I'm a little bored with those we have and have had a while now....
PLEASE PLEASE JIM can we have some new ones....tank drivers or pilots etc.
OOPS Capital Punishment is due

Cheers
Peter

It doesn't bother me others using my face....
Hell others have used my face for punching bags, door mats, and even targets..... :-)

I like my avatar also. Except for no beard and the fact I gave up on the heavy black frame glasses when I was in high school it looks just like me. More imporant I think it captures the essence of ME. If anybody else wants to use it, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I think one issue is the amount of server space new avatars might take. I know recently we were asked to store our banners on other servers so no to task this one too much. I don't know that much about computers, even though I have sold them in the past, but if this is an issue then I think Staff Jim will do what is best for Armorama in order to keep it available online as much as possible, and as fast as possible. If that means dealing with the same avatars as we have now, I'm all for it.

Does it take server space to like to avatar sites? I'm using one of the Predator on PF and it's a link to a site that has boatloads of avatars.

Well, obviously you can have custom avatars on Armorama, as you can see from mine. It's just that that option's available only after you've hit a certain number of posts (can't remember, but it might be 300) and then you can have your own avatar. It's all there in the FAQs. You gotta upload it to your gallery and then apply for it to be used. No photos, though.

mine was an unexpected gift and when I look at it it reminds me of those on site who thought enough of me to do it.

cheers

Hi again...

I'm not too bothered if many use the same one as I do.
Its just that it would be nice to have a few new ones.
As our lists get longer and longer, maybe there's a need for a more varied selection. Take the pilot one I use for example...its the only air connected one as far as I know. It would be nice to have a few more.
And not just for Air...but a few of each to cover all our areas of interest.
Such as a "brickie" or a "carpenter" for dio builders,
A diver or seaman for the shippers etc etc.

Just thinking out loud...
And Dave you are lucky in that you've found one that looks like you .
But then again God help you all if Jim finds one that looks like me #:-)

Cheers
Peter

Dollars to doughnuts says if you make a few avatars for Jim to put up, he'll do it gladly. I have found if you want something new on the site, do a little legwork for Jim and he will add it gladly. He has always been impressed when others did the work for him.

If you don't know how to do it, now would be an excellent time to learn. There is a free program called Serif Photo that works just like photoshop. It works great for re-sizing images and converting them to .gif format. Just go here: http://www.freeserifsoftware.com/software/PhotoPlus/download1.asp

Avatars need to be 45X45 pixels and GIF file format.

We decided that the problem with this issue is lack of control on what folks use as an avatar. Worst case scenario is that there are some thoughtless folks who decide to use inappropriate pictures as their avatar.

Best way to get a custom avatar is to provide a lot of service to the site as an editor, reviewer, article author, moderator and other staff supporters. Hard work is normally rewarded.
