You guys don't have to destroy an expensive model to learn these techniques. Any primed flat surface will work and if you must paint on a vehicle? Why not a cheap plastic toy tank or car etc... ? Just a thought?

Personally, a separate class, or inclusion of, dealing with resin or photoetch would be a great bonus. Especially for me!! (okay, being a bit selfish)

Be selfish Mike, I'm with you on that all the way!

Right, Time to get organised...

I need some idea as to when people like to kick off.
Hawkeye (Eth) will do the first class, which will start with the basics. Preparing the model for painting, and the use of primer, if and when needed. He has two models, one plastic OOB and one with Resin and PE, to show where these extra parts would need extra attention. It will NOT be neccessary for the class to have two models aswel, either type will be sufficient.

In this case I would suggest to use a simple model, as the next class will then carry on with a basic one colour coat. So you can use this model for subsequent classes. AS has been stated before, the basics are much the same for base coats, so if you use a German AFV and the next class is done with an Allied AFV, that should not be a problem.

To give us all time to get ready and gather all the neccessary bits and pieces, I think starting in about three weeks would be o.k., between around Sunday April 23.

I'll compile a list of items that are needed, and will post more details as and when there are any..

Cheers
Henk

the 23rd sounds fine to me. The only hang up for some maybe that the AMPS nationals are the week after and will be getting ready for that.

Cool, I am curious if a small scale tank would be ok for this class?

I have both a Sherman and a hetzer already built in braille scale but both need painting...

Hi Michael,

I would suggest a 35th scale or 48th scale model for these classes. 72nd scale brings on additional challenges to painting that I consider to be for the experienced modeller. A very good command of your airbrush is needed to make one of these little models stand out. With this said, I'm currently building the Revell Germany ATF Dingo 1 in 72nd as a foundation to what will hopefully be a hard-edge camo class using silly putty as a masking agent. (This technique has recently been highlighted in the April 2006 copy of Fine Scale Modeler).... but in the end, if you feel confident enough, then by all means, use your 72nd model as a base for the lessons.

Hi,

count me in, too.
I´d like to suggest another date to start.
It´s a little selfish, I know, but I would be so happy to join, but let me explain:

May 1st would be better for me, because I have to pass some audits until May 3rd. To catch up two days would be easier than more than a week.
Second, over here in Europe we have Easter holidays, that means, some of us are on vacation, stores are closed, etc.
May 1st would give us a little more time to prepare.

Third, the one who begins with the first "lesson" should announce the vehicle he uses for demonstration ASAP. I expect that some of us need to pick it up and build it first before starting the class.

The initial class is either deeply in progress or over already, I assume. Is there any archive available? Or some other post-class material for late-comers to dig thru...?

Thanks
