Always good to see a Vietnam-diorama getting shape. And it does get a nice shape!! I think you choose the best front side; the back of the gun and the bunker are the main points there. To be honest I believe a diorama that comes out this nice deserves the best figures; in my (humble?) opinion that would be Hobby Fan's.
like these:

or these:

but regardless of the figures this diorama will be one I'm going to look forward to.

keep it up!

I saw the Hobby Fan figures but due to the deadline of the campaign in 1 week I cannot get them and finish them in time.

But of course there is no reason that couldn't add them after the campaign ended.

Anyway, I've been watching this pretty closely and I like this; not just the dio but how much help and background you've been given. It is just really cool to watch come together. Best of luck in finishing this.

True...

Now that I've done one artillery piece I want to do more big guns. I have a M12 in the stash that I have a dio idea and I am negotiating a Long Tom that I have another dio idea.

Camo nets would definitely cover the ordnance ( draped like a tent ) and probably tent-wise over the gun as well, leaving the front open for firing.

This is not really true with the guns on forward fire bases. There was no need to try to hide the guns. Everyone knew they were arty bases. The engineers would clear away as much shrubs and trees as they could and most arty bases were on top of hills and mountains. I have seen where the crews would cover the breach with a canvas tarp or even their ponchos in an attemnpt to keep them dry and clean..

The Marnies from "I" battery 3rd batt 11th marnies 1st Div, when they arrived some where near Da-Nang 65 they had there guns covered over with netting.

I am thinking of a compromise. I don't want to cover over the guns because then it would be difficult to see. However I like the idea of having some netting over the sandbag walls just to give some additional texture to the dio.

The camo nets they had were fairly sparce, it looks more like christmas tinsle. I'll try and get a picture of it up some how? The base they were at was near a beach as there is sand every were.

I have a Flak88 that maybe I'll put under netting. Germans were more likely to hide their guns. I think I'm going to declare Firebase ShermiesRule complete
