I'm building Dragon's great flak 88 /36 kit and have an idea in mind for a dio but I'm not sure if the gun would fit this period.
Was the 36 in use in France in late 1944-45 painted in panzer yellow?
The only pics i've been able to find show the flak 37 in this period, not the 37. Does anyone know how long the 36 continued in production and use, ie was it completely superceeded by subsequent marks like the 37 and 41 or would it have been possible to find one fighting on in a 44-45 camo scheme in N/w Europe?
any help appreciated.

According to my New Vanguard book on the 88mm series of German guns, all versions of the 88 were used in France during D-day on June 6, 1944 against Allied armor.

Which leads to my own question. The Pak 43/41 "Schuentor" was used mostly on the Eastern front, but a few were used in the west as well. Were they among the defending guns during D-day?

For a Pak 43/41 in Normandy try this link

Pak 43/41

IWM captions it as being taken during Operation Totalize August 1944, the Cromwell may be Polish

Tim:

I didn't check David Maynard's link but 8.8cm Pak 43/41s were in the thick of things early on. While doing some research about 21PD, their Panzerjager unit, 200 Panzerjager Abt had 24 Pak 43/41s and were engaged in knocking out some of the first British and/or Cdn armor coming up from the beachead. This unit had some mis-deployments on June 6 (who didn't right?) but was in the thick of it.

And that's just this unit. If one digs around, there were probably other heavy Pak units. I know the Pak 43/41 was in some of the beach fortifications. I recall one that fired laterally down one of the invasion beaches and killed several landing tanks. It was in a bunker that was shielded from direct fire offshore and its field of fire was down the entire beach. Deadly!
