After the Javelin missile strapped on the M113 top, I try my luck with another ID request. This time it's a LAV :

Any idea about this "Robbie-the-Robot-like" feature ? :

Now I'm wondering if it could simply be something located in the background behind the LAV, which has nothing to do with it (like a TV relay station or a pylon of sorts... )

Yes, I think you are correct. I am willing, once again, to wager Gino's next paycheck on that it is a tip of a mineret (sorry about the spelling) or something like that. :-)

Ok so if I need a Minaret to go on my LAV, can you suggest where you might get one?
Sorry the thread is descending into a Monty Python Sketch.

I don't think so guys. If you look, the dust cloud would obscure or at least diffuse anything behind the LAV in that direction. As to what it may be instead, I have no idea. Honestly, it looks like either a weather sensor of some type (I don't know why an LAV would carry weather sensors) or a bird feeder.

VLS has one out that actually looks halfway decent. Still boycotting their stuff though...

Ditto Kyle ! A minaret or another building would be logical. But the fact that "it" was quite clearly visible whereas the following LAV was not because of the dust had prevented me from inclining to this possibility at first....
Thanks for the replies

I like your relay theory. It looks very reminiscent of the Fernsehturm in Berlin.
By the way, as promised, I checked in at Lockheed, which is not far from my house. The mystery photo according to folks who work there appears very much to be a Javelin, although they do not have complete systems there, and do not recognize the ribs. I was advised that a call to Raytheon in Arizona might yield a better clue...

I have suspicions that this may be a Canadian LAV-III serving in Afghanistan. If it is, then it could be some kind of aerial of our own design. I agree with Kyle that it's not a minaret or any kind of background object. It looks like it's right on the vehicle itself. I'm trying to search more.

Bob,
It's not a LAV 3, it's a USMC LAV 25.
There is an antenna mount on the hull of the LAV 25 right in the area of the mystery object. Maybe it's a new HF or UHF antenna?

Well, I freely admit to NOT being a photoshop expert, but I tried to enlarge a section, and sharpen it a little.
Maybe that will help ID it.

What did I miss. Where is this picture with the Javelin missile?

Phoenix-1 might be on to something with his weather sensor idea. It looks almost exactly like an outdoor air temperature sensor that we use at work for our HVAC control system.
