Hello;

Yes the kit falls together, I still need to do the tracks but they should not be to bad. The launch rails can be a little tricky (right and left one ).
I was going to do the MLRS but I chicken out . I will try the SA-2 launcher maybe. The MLRS needs lots of TLC, I would rather build other stuff. I shuold have the SA-6 done by Wendsday.

Hey rocketeers!

Finally found some pictures of a Katyusha on a US Lend&Lease truck base (Studebaker?) that has angular fenders on the back, so the Zevzda platform with fenders can be used (the most of the "Lend-Lease Katyusha's" have rounded fenders on the back).

Click here for 2 reference pictures from www.JAGDTIGER.DE of the Studebaker US 6x6 on display at the Victory Memorial in Moscow.
It's the truck I'm gonna use as reference for my project.

I've cutted the Zvezda platform in shape and altered the Italeri chassis to fit. This is how far I am at the moment:

How's the rest doing?

This is my progress so far, i have finished building the vehicle, just have to source some tracks. This is the DML MLRS with the Royal Models update set, and a scratch built stowage rack for the front of the vehicle. When finished it will represent a UK MLRS as used in the Gulf.

Not an easy vehicle to build by any means, and the rocket launchers are very fiddly...maybe DML will do a "premium kit" with this one day.

Hey Roderick,

thanks for that. I was told that the UK MLRS had different tracks to the US ones, and that all European NATO MLRS's had the same style as the UK ones. From what i was told, is that they look the same as the Diehl M-113 tracks, which are different to the US ones.....will have to do some further checking to see if i made a mistake...thanks again

To Paul, just a tip, paint the launch rails for the Katyusha rockets and their frame seperately, you'll save alot of grief that way (as I'm now finding out......)

Hey! Thanks for the warning!
Indeed, I did not thought about that before you mentioned it! :-)

Looking good Rodders! What paint/colour did you used?

Did you had problems too to get the launch rack straight? In my kit it was twisted after I assembled it and it took some time to get the rack straigtlined (still not 100%...).
Try to post some new pictures of my Katyusha soon.

Klingon BOP actually used disruptors as main battery weapons but a lot of them carried scatterpack shuttles...

Back on topic: After watching "Space Race" on the NG Channel I am heading to Hobby Lobby to see what they have out there. Been in a modeling funk and this may be just the ticket to get me out.

Click on the ModelGeek tab at the top of this page, then the campaigns tab at the top of that page. Navigate to the Rocket and Missile campaign and make sure you enlist and your name appears on the right column with other people's names.

I've decided I am going to do a Bell X-1 and/or a North American X-15, both of which are basically manned and winged rockets - does that qualify? Seems to me if the space shuttle does, then those should, no?

@Vance: those rocketplanes sound good. I hope you enter them!!

Well, as far as my entry, this picture shows where I am for now.
The Italeri truck had a man-hole in the roof and a MG mounted on it.
So to "close the roof" I cutted a piece of circular plasticplate fitting the hole and used Tamiya putty to finnish it nicely.

I'm working on the interior at the moment. I'm planning to build the cabine completely and than temporary close the doors using the latex / "colourstop" that I use to seal the windows as glue. After airbrushing the model I hope I can easely open the doors again and than glue them in the position I like.
