Hi Harm,

I do realise we have the Channel Tunnel and that you can get from London to Paris etc on the same train.

I was just checking to make sure there were no differences in 1940, which given that the British Invented the Railway and exported it as means of commmunication to the rest of the world would seem unlikely but of course we measured things in feet and inches and not evevybody did that.

Anyway thanks for confiming that, it's full steam ahead then.

Cheers

I'm in, if I can make the kit made by Dragon/Alby. The Panhard Armored Car, captured, then turned into a armored rail car....also, that Dragon "Kommandowagen" looks pretty interesting.......
Thanks for your time!

There is no hard and fast rule on when a Campaign is approved - especially when there's a lot of them going on right now.

I have looked and cannot see your Campaign Submission - to approve...

You could use the campaign for an excuse to pre-order that 35th scale DORA

LOL!!! Yeah right... if someone has an airplane hangar for me in spare I will think that over...

Just came across this thread by now. Great idea; I'M IN!!

BTW; there were lots of different gauges in Europe. I believe even over 30 different gauges!!!

Brunel (Great Western, UK) once started with a gauge of 2314 mm (and that was also the whidest rails used ever for a railroad).
The smallest track I know for use on a normal railway (passengers and freight) 760 mm. in Europe, and even smaller on industrial railways.
Standarisation of the main lines started somewhere early 20th century, when they discovered that you could also travell abroad with trains.

Most common used standard tracks (nowdays, anno 2006):
1435 mm. ("standard track") 60% of the world, like U.S. and almost all western countries in Europe.
1524 mm. Russia, Rumania, China, Finland (?)
1672 mm. Spain and Portugal
1000 mm. ("metrical") widely used in Swiss
1118 mm. Spain narrow gauge
760 mm. Austria branchlines, like Zillertall bahn (daily standard public transport).

Anno 1925 - 1960 in most European countries 1435 mm. was standard for the main lines. Branchlines varied, but mostly used were 1000 mm. and 760 mm (Germany, Swiss, French, Netherlands, Belgium).

Take also a look on: Wikepedia Rail Gauges.
It shows a list of all gauges and countries.

Bye!

Hi Paul,

Welcome on board.

I have a couple of posts running on Modelgeek.

Sorted the track gauge size (at least for GB) throuh Wikipedia yesterday but I'm now looking for data on Southern Railways, livery and the difference between the flatbed and goods wagons currently available which might be used for conversion to British Rolling Stock.

Have fun.

Cheers

Al

There definately appears to be enough interest to warrant a campaign. And theres no major hurry to have it approved as start date is not until 20070101, as was requested by quite a few.
If it should happen that its not approved, because of the sheer amount of campaigns, it can still go ahead as an unofficial group build.

I would be interested in this campaign also. Only problem I would have is that all of my rail kits are the Trumpeter kits which are rather large and would require lots of my spare time. I was wondering if it would be possible to make this a 12 month build since I am in the construction industry and the majority of the time I cannot find time to work on models when it is warm outside due to increased work hours. I dont want this to be all about me actually(time extension), so I hope that there are others that might have the same feelings. If it remains a 6 month build then I probably won't be able to join in the fun. Realistically, even though you say this is a "fun" build, there may not be another rail campaign for some time so this may have to satisfy many builders appetites for a while. Also, even with a 12 month time frame, I may only have 6 months of the 12 to work on this. So, I was just curious to see if anyone else who is interested in this campaign may have a similar concern. I may just have to wait until the next time!!

I second this as a year-long campaign. I have a Trumpeter Karl that took me quite a while to build. Unfortunately it only progressed to the point where I realized I put a couple major parts on backwards

The guy who proposed this campaign and was the project eader on it is not allowed on the site anymore (since mid-August).. I think if there is enough interest someone should resubmit it and take over as project leader. I am unable to do so as I just finished up one campaign as leader and need to get caught up with other projects

The timing is funny, I just took over the campaign side of things on MG and this one is in there.

What I might do, since it's actually been put in the system under RailRoad, is try and drum up support for it in a new RR thread and see if we can get it going. I'll definitely do a cross over 'publishing' because I know there are a bunch of military oriented Rail Road subjects.

So, look for a new thread shortly.

Hey Slodder,

Am happy to move this thread over if you need me to. Just give me a shout if you do.

I too believe this campaign is better suited to be hosted on MG. That way the scope of the campaign can be widen to be outside the military scope and more folks can join in.

Jeremy - I'm ok with the thread here if that's ok with you. Shortly I'm going to start a fresh thread on MG and reference this one. Thanks

Mark good deal.

what a campaign leader must to do?

I´m very interested in participate and give an official category to this campaign
what can i do to bring back to life this campaign and be suscribed as an official campaign.

Now there are more "models on rails" than a year ago, and many more are comming.

I don´t think that Benjamin is a member any longer. Maybe it needs someone to take over at the helm?
Are you interested panzer67?
Both Slodder and Jazza have supported this, and as you appear to have the drive needed ... you could lead this campaign. I can´t, as I am "missing in action" for periods of time ... but will support in any way I can ... plus Im sure Scott and Jeremy will also be there when needed.
There´s so much interest, its a pity this hasn´t lifted off yet!
