Has anyone built any of the 1/48th Hobby Boss T-34,s? I understand that Hobby Boss is associated with Trumpeter. I was wondering what the kits are like? The first time I saw these kits was on e-Bay, being sold out of Hong Kong!

Hi Rob,

I bought one, because on opening the box in my LHS you could not but be impressed by the quality and sheer amount of detail that is available on this little gem. I have not touched it as of yet but did invest in the Osprey book on building the T34, which will compliment its building perfectly as like the kit it is jam packed with inspiration.

The value is superb also, so I would recommend that you invest in one of the choices that they give. The hard thing is not to be tempted to buy the whole set.

Thumbs up.

I received one as a gift, haven't built it yet, but it certainly is an impressive looking little kit.

Jim, the retail for what I understand is around $20.00. It looks to me like Hobby Boss is on to something in the world of 1/48th AFV,s! Their kits are cheaper then Tamiya, yet offer all the detail.

Rob, thanks, yes, that was what I understood as well to be honest, the level of detail of the Tamiya kits leaves a lot to be desired, HB seem to be really pushing the envelope on this as well - i'm going to be buying their KVs from Hong Kong as soon as they're available. Never can have enough KVs and in particular based on the dimensionally correct Trumpeter ones against the crappy Tamiya ones - NO COMPETITION!...

Please note- Lion Roar offers a turned barrel for the HB T-34/85,s. The barrels run about $8.00.

After reading this post I went and picked one up for a tenner
I got the 1943 factory 112 model.
This is the first 1/48 tank I've got
Stunning what a gem of a kit, and I've only opened the box!!!
Having built the BIG 1/16 Trumpie 34, I've just done a quick comparison,

The number of ready racks is correct, and they look better.
It has the correct number of floor ammo boxes.
Batteries are included :-) :-)
The correct engine mounted air filter,(so bin parts A1,2,3,4 54, and 55 in step 12 as these are for the 85 model
All the control rods are there

Can't wait to start it
mmmmmmm must finish Karl and MK IV B first ..DOH
What others are avalible with full interiors? a Tiger 1????

I have one in my stash. When i first opened the box i had to check the scale again as i couldn't believe how many parts there are in it. I keep looking at it wondering how am i going to get all those bits in a 1/48 tank :-) . Definitely going to have to pick up Osprey book on building the T34 to help me out.
Their aircraft kits aren't bad either :-) .

Andy

Great though the Osprey modelling book is, you could short-circuit the process and look at some of the reference photos used by Mike Kirchoff for his interior work

The T-34's come with a 'full' interior and are head and shoulders above the Tamiya offerings.

I'm curious as to whether the entire range that they release in 1/48 will have interiors...?

The Hobby Boss T-34 interiors are derived from the Trumpeter 1/16th model, which is why they're so complete. The Trumpeter 1/35th KVs (which most assume will be the pattern for the HobbyBoss 1/48th series) don't have interiors (plus we don't know what the interior of the KV-2 looks like anyway), so no is the likely answer. The HobbyBoss Shermans don't have interiors either.

I have the two T34 85's. They are two of the nicest 1/48 scale kits I have seen. They are essentially scaled down versions of Trumpeter's 1/16 kit.

The best US source seems to be Wings and Treads. That is where I got mine, but they are currently backordered.

The web site is Wings n Treads

Rob,

I normally work in 1;35th but had to buy this kit when I read the review.

Having built it I have to say that the review undersells this fantastic kit, which I rate as the best I have ever done.

On a price comparison basis this has to be the best value for money ever.

Wonderful detail, fantastic fit and absolutely to scale in every dimension.

let there be more.

Wings n Treads carries all 4 T-34 kits. It looks like as soon as the kits are re-stocked they sell out! These are some hot -34,s!!

Rob,

You are correct everytime I get these kits in there are gone in 2 - 3 days. Even the Shermans which have some flaws are selling out as fast as I get them in. I am going to get a large HB order in and I hope to time it with the release of the KVs.
