Hi chaps
In my build for the Sherman 111 from the 'tarawa' kit I find two fire extinguishers on one of the sprues. Does anyone know where these should be fitted?
I cannot find any photos of these so am not sure if they are to be used or not. They would be a nice touch however.
Thanks
Tony

Hi Tony,
Haven't seen the kit yet but I'll guess that the fire extinguishers are for the British Sherman III's.
I've never seen any pictures or read of any exterior fire extinguishers on U.S. Marine Corp or Army Shermans.
Maybe someone else knows better?
Enjoy the kit and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Tony as John says the fire extinguishers are for use on the British Sherman III and were not used on American Shermans. If you want to make a British version of the kit put the extinguisher here between the shovel and the rear light and in the same place on the other side

And what would be the colour? The same as the tank itself?

The IWM database has a great colour photo of a Crocodile in action, showing a fire extinguisher mounted on the turret bin. It's definitely green. I'll post the pic as soon as the IWM's search engine is working again.

Hey David,
Darn if I can't remember where I read it, but British fire extinguishers were a green colour, somewhere between a lime green and pale emerald green.
And part of the fittings were red.
I'll start scouring through my books.

David: That's a great photo. I love the irony -- we're focusing in on the mounted fire extinguisher while the Crocodile is spewing forth its flame jet!

While we're on the subject of Green. Anyone know which Valejo Air colour is most suitable for the tank?
I really like working with VA so would like to use it again.
Cheers
Tony
p.s. Thanks David, I was going to ask about the extinguisher as well.

hehe well spotted Roy! And I thought irony was lost on Americans...
I guess we couldn't see the flames for the fire or something like that...
