Hi chaps
Does anyone have a photo of Robin Hood, the M4A1 used by SRY?
I have the one at the museum but am looking for contempoary photos if possible.
Many thanks.

Hi Tony,
The Sherwood Rangers came under the heading Nottinghamshire Yeomenry (Sherwood Rangers).
That might help a bit in your search. The only picture I have is of a Sherman of the Sherwood Rangers going through Cahagnes form British Tanks in Normandy p 56. The reference is Tank Museum 2707/B5 if that helps at all, The pic is not clear enough for me to make out specific details but it does say in the text that the same photo only larger is in the IMW archives.
Cheers

Thanks Al
I have that book but it's a welded hull. Mk111 in that photo I think.
Robin Hood was cast hull.
I shall keep trying to find a photo from '44 or '45 but this little quest of mine is trashing my eyesight :-)
Cheers

Hi Tony
There may have been more than one Robin Hood as it appears the SRY used it as the name for the CO's tank (I think). I've also seen it painted on a Grant.

I'm reading Stuart Hill's "By Tank Into Normandy" and he was the only officer to escape unscathed from their tour of NWE. He mentions how early in Normandy (late June?) that during an officers' conference near the then current "Robin Hood", it was hit by a 15cm German artillery shell. Both the CO and XO were killed along with the wounding of several other crucial personnel. Robin Hood was completely destroyed too.
I'm not yet done. I'll let you know if another Robin Hood is mentioned in the text.
