Steven Zaloga & George Balin in their publication ¨D Day - Tank Warefare¨ of Concord Publications Company, say that Wittmann Tiger was knoked out by a Sherman Firefly of the 3 Troop, A Sqd. of the Northamptonshire Yeomary. Specificly the only Firefly of a group of four Shermans. This one was at the comand of Sgt. Gordon. He was knocked senseless and injured during the fighting and Lt. A. James raced from another Sherman to the Firefly and he knocked out the other two Tigers (they were three in total). The engagement took twelve minutes of the noon of 8th August 1944 during Operation Totalize.

I just find German tanks more interesting. They are HUMONGUS and have awesome firepower. They have many more camoflauge designs and have huge deisel engines. I think people are right "Bigger is Better". Just my opinion.

Ah good controversy. OK let me write what I've got in my reference. Based on eyewitness accounts of the days action, including an examination of all destroyed Tigers after the battle by a resident of Cintheaux, the most probable view is that during the battle between Witmann's Tigers (he was Btn Cmdr of 19 Tiger 1s) and the advancing Allied armor, his Tiger, "White 007" was hit and destroyed by a rocket fired by a Royal Air Force Typhoon"
Skip a paragraph about Typhoons
A moment later the ammunition exploded instantly killing all crew breaking both tracks and blowing turret into air......According to diary of the Frnch citizen who examined the wreckage of "white007" after the battle, the Tiger had not been penetrate by any of the shells which had struck during the battle.
This book was published in 1992 Feist and Culver are considered the foremost experts on the Tiger tanks.

Oh please don't call them Nazi tanks. The Nazi's were a political party. The Wehrmacht was the GERMAN Army though there were Nazi's in it. and yea I prefer to do German for the variety. I do have 1 Sherman in my collection

All the posts about this theme were about the Sherman tank and German armor of WW 2. You don´t need to say German/Nazi to specify you´re talking of WW2 facts. It´s obvious.

Just trying to be clear. Thought you might think I was talking about WWI or post-WWII.

Good, all controversies resolved. No more Nazi tanks and my hero (who was a Nazi by the way) was killed by those nasty Jabo's. They discovered Wittmans remains in 1993 buried near the battlefield for those of you who are interested

CSCH I think that book is still available. It is by Ryton Publications. I got mine from Squadron when they put it on sale. Cost me $85. Think it went for over a hundred. Just checked their latest master catalog and they still list it at $89.96. If you love Tigers this is the book hundreds of photos of every intricate detail. You would never need another source for any modeling variation. It also has comprehensive histories of all the units that used them. Now color schemes, well I'ld turn to the Squadron Panzer colors series.

Just to bring a little more clarity to that...this is the Italeri Jumbo kit that isn't....but still builds into a good representation of a M4A3 (76) W. :-)
