Here's three pics of the engine and chassis of the Tamiya Famo I am building. I have just finished step 4. The engine is merely dry-fitted in place for ease of painting. Dave (SS-74) was kind enough to send me some photocopies of the crazy Aber PE sets' instructions for the kit so I could see what things I could scratchbuild myself as I am building this without aftermarket parts. I used these instructions for the wiring on the engine. Thin copper wire and thicker lead wire were used. The silver metal pieces are made from the thin sheet metal found wrapped around tea candles. The gold coloured one is from a PE fret and the additional boltheads were leftovers from another PE set.

Nic,

You are off to an awesome start... I have to you will maintain your sanity longer by NOT touching the Aber sets for the FAMO.

In addition, it seems to me that each one of your projects has been progressively more advanced and you continue to improve your building skills with each one.

I just might have to find one of my FAMO kits and get started...

Keep us posted...
Tim

That's a solid start, Nic. You're becoming a die-hard scratchbuilder here. This time you decided to do it without the aftermarket kit. Keep going like that and you'll even manage to do it without the Famo kit !

Ronald, you old gangster ! Is this a modeler's thing, being up and about at 2:15 am ? I just got an e-mail from Ronny, so he's not gone to bed yet either. Is this revenge on our youth when we were sent to bed early ? Sleep well.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Yes, I am having fun scratchbuilding more and more details on my models. I have an Academy Honey that I did a lot of scratchbuilding with for the interior, so I will have to take some pictures of that soon and show you.

I will also post more pictures of the Famo as I progress. Unfortunately, I won't have a camera again for another week so hopefully I won't be finished by then (yeah right ).

Very nice. The FAMO (AHHHHHH..............FAMO!!!!!!!!) is my favorite subject. I purchased all four sets of Aber PE for the FAMO & trailer and have reserved a bed in the local Psych ward. The insanity contained in those Aber sets is mind boggling to say the least but worth every penny. Enjoy your build. I am looking forward to seeing your continued efforts.
