I just want a platform to interact with and get advise from some of the more experienced builders out there.

Hi there..
My suggestion for helping out new builders would be to make information easier to find. For example if i'm a new armor builder and I surf over to Armorama and look under features I get a ton of stuff on military vehicles. But if I wanted too look at some Features on basic building techniques i'd have to go over to Model Geek and check out the Features list there.. This might be confusing for new users.
just my 2 cents worth..

I would love to see a step by step area. Many a time there have been photos posted of fantastic works and the builder is trying to answer questions on techniques used to achieve a certain look. It could cover pre and post shading, paint chipping, different weathering techniques and the like.
I know we have the feedback forum but this would delve deeper then, I'm building ABC kit and this is where I stand, what do you think... Just my 2 pennies worth...

It's good to see the responses being so positive and helpful.
Sometimes, people don't realize that they have a unique skill which can be of enormous practical benefit to the site.
If anything, I think the site has to be better at tapping-into the considerable talent which exists here. We also, have to be more aware of the needs of less-experienced modellers.
Whatever improvements wihich will manifest themselves in the coming weeks or months, one thing you might be noting already, is that the 'keynote' (now) is teamwork....

1) More assistance given to 'returnees' to the hobby or simply those who are starting out.
Maybe in the same vein but how about we can designate the areas that we consider ourselves very knowledgeable in. Thus, someone new to the forums could post a thread related to Modern, M113 for example and those of us who think we know alot about the M113 would get a pm notification. On the flipside, we would be responsible for giving friendly advice.
Just a thought. Of course it would require some database work and the notification mechanism.

3) A 'Research Forum' created where (specific) questions can be put over any aspect of a vehicle
A Research Desk would be great idea as a one stop shop for information about vehicle x. But then it would be nice if the editors could move a relevent thread to the Research Desk if someone had started a really good discussion on the Leopard 1 for example. Plus we could submit articles to the Research Desk. Tie in the relevant reviews, etc.
I'd like to see some more classification under Modern for new threads. Modern Armor and Modern USA is a bit limited. Modern British, Modern Bundeswehr, etc. Or maybe just Modern and then a dropdown list of countries.

Hi
!)I had to think hard about what I would like to see added to this site.
1)I would like to see a weekly model kit post. I little like a campaign but can be already built. I am sure many modellers have kits that they have posted ages ago that other people have not seen.
So maybe each weekend there is a model post topic like sherman tank no brand attached to kit maker. So everyone that has bulit a sherman can post it that weekend of during that week. Then the next week a new tank eg. King Tiger
So each week you could see new and old kits people have done.
2) The other way would be to just have a gallery like ML does and have all tigers in one group and so on.
I myself have looked on forums for years without joining. Just as much I like reading posts I enjoy just as much looking at peoples work but would like it to be in one section. It could be erased every year and started again if space is an issue, so a gallery would be good idea.
I would also like to see less ranting, sometimes people get in long debates off topic( could be personal) in a topic that ends up wrecking the title and aim of that topic. I find this annoying and makes my time spent on sites less enjoyable. I would like to see more strict rules and if people are being disrespectful to others they are warned and deleted if such behaviour continues. I would also like if peoples replies are not on the topic that there comment is deleted and they are warned as well.
I really come to a site like this to relax and enjoy my hobby, I find rants @#$%^*# annoying and a waste of time and tends to make me stressed rather than relaxed.
Thanks
Ryally.

A Research/Reference Forum would be nice, on all the Kitmaker sites. The danger is that information becomes un-organized, redundant, etc, if people just post topics will-nilly, without regard to previous posts because they are too lazy or bacuse the post list is too long lo leaf thru.
May I suggest you look at Model Warships (http://www.modelwarships.com/index1.html - they have a forum titled "Calling All Ship Fans" - A collection of topics that deal with specific ships.
The idea is to keep all posts on a specific type/class of ship, or on some specific ships in one single thread, so they are easy to find. A scheme like this could be adapted for Armorama, Aeroscale, MSW, etc. The forukm is moderated and policed to keep the general discussion out, etc. I do not know if the forum threads can be started by any member or if only by the moderators (to prevent duplication).
There are of course other approaches ...

I would have to agree that we need a better/advanced search facility for the forums across the Kitmaker network, as i normally get bored of trawling through posts/threads looking for information that may already have been answered and lost in the aether. I feel that is the same for most of us. Time after time we get a new thread created asking similar questions that have been answered before (I'll even admit I've done this before). just a comprehensive search function with advanced setting..like a pull down menu for specific forum, search by author, keyword, topic and user specify the results...some website do have this useful feature...

One other thing I would like to see is the ability to join a "group" which is attached to your membership seetings. Groups might be "newbie", "casual modeller", "getting better", "box stocker", "rivet counter", etc... I think this would be good because it would better help us see the skill level of other modellers making posts - and help us understand better where the other guy is coming from when he says what he says. I think it will help us before we post to see if a guy is simply posting pics of his model, or looking for good feedback - by looking at his "group" we can see that if he is in the "casual modeller" category, we probably don't need to tell him all the inaccuracies of his work if we are a "rivet counter"... and the guy in the "getting better" category might appreciate that constructive feedback... make sense?

The diorama forum debate is a very tough one to tackle. Each genre has its own 'flavor'/variation of diorama. There are also only a few of us who cross genres and do diorama's in different subject areas.
How's this for an idea on Diorama - a "Diorama Filter" on the Latest Network Post that only shows the 'diorama' related threads across the network. I know you can sort by Forum on that page, but Im thinking one more step - show only Dio. Threads.
What i would suggest with regard to dioramas (diorarmae?) is that there be a ground/buildingwork section of Kitmaker network. if you place a tank and fingures in a setting, then you use the armour forum to help you build the tank and the figure forum for the figures. If your dio features aircraft then use the aircraft section. What isn't explicit at the moment is part of the kitmaker network for the ground work and composition.
However, I'm not sure that "fragmenting" the Kitmaker site in this way is necessarily a good idea. I suspect that the population of dedicated diorama builders is comparatively small and it might be that the discussions would be compromised by too few contributors. Although I have my own preferences in building, I enjoy seeing a wide variety of work, and so the site being compact provides the variety in themes of work that I enjoy.

John,
I have looked at this in depth. My own opinion is that placing potentially hundreds (thousands?) of posts into one topic is not really the best use of forum technology. Nor do I think most users want to shift through 30-100 pages of posts to find the relevant points they were looking for. Being that search engine place a high level of weight on a pages TITLE meta-tag, having multiple posts that give a ship name, will I think result in a fairly comprehensive set of search results for any given ship, however one topic is only going to yield one result. And finding the relevant phrase you searched for in a topic with 30-50 pages is not always easy.
All that said however there is nothing stopping someone from doing this on our forums now. And I don't think we would need a special forum for it. Why not a USS Nimitz topic in Dockyard: Carriers, for example? If the topic was named properly it would alway come up quickly in a search.
Just my 2 cents.

Yo, Staff-O-Riffic Jim-Bo-Rooney,
Have you ever addressed Thread Subscriptions before? Where you can mark certain threads as, say, important to the member logged in? I can go through My Posts to find threads I've posted on, but, sometimes it's better to wait and post when it's relevant and I have something to really contribute. If there were a way to "bookmark" threads you want to really keep an eye on, it would be grande!
Just a thought,
Cuhail

Sort of like a "Threads I am Watching" feature? Yeah I have thought along those lines. At some point they would need to expire so that the database didn't get a zillion watched threads, but it's doable.

Jim-- over at the History Forum, we receive an appreciable amount of responses when discussing books. I would gladly offer my services to moderate a book forum. Just let me know.

One feature I would also like to see, that can be found on many other forums is a preview button to see what your post would look like before you submit it. Many a time I have had to edit my post several times in succession because of a spelling mistake of the link/image I've put in doesn't work.
Also how about having unread posts linked to the users account rather than using cookies on the PC? I check the forums from approximately 4 different PC's and find that i spend most of my time searching through "new posts" that I've already read on another PC. Don't know how everyone else feels or if it is easily do-able?
