I bet afv is watching this thread, while using the above mentioned monty burns phrase: 'exceeleeeent'...

dragon and trumpeter are probably also saying multiple versions of the infamous words that I cannot mention here.

Dragon will announce tomorrow they a bringing out this kit.

Canada was supposed to buy 66 of these things.

They were supposed to replace our Leopards (madness I say!)

Of course this was all before the mission in Afganistan and the Leopards got sent over there.

Last I heard they were cancelling the purchase but who knows?

The Canadian purchase of the MGS has been officially cancelled, kaput, fini, terminated.

"New" tanks are being very seriously being looked at to replace the Leopard C2.

This is very cool news, but it seems tempered by Ric's note. I will have to run to my MGS photos and do some comparisons. Only 4/2 I believe is ready to deploy w/ them, but I know 56th SBCT (PA NTL Guard) has them too.

56 BDE Isn't due to field MGS until Next FY. I believe next summer. NBC-RV still has yet to be fielded as well. The CBRN PLT is getting FOX vehicles as an interim replacement. They will be fielded next month. I am not 100% sure, but I believe the other SBCTs are doing the same thing.

the NBCRV has been fielded to 4/2, I believe the plan is to get Hawaii done with both the MGS and NBCRV. After that they will start going back through the SBCT and get them fielded.

Ric

As far as production pics of the MGS goes, if you look at my photo album there are pics all the way around it.

I rechecked my photos. I was mistaken. Somehow I got my 56th photos lumped with some 4/2 photos. On closer inspection of my MGS photos the bumper codes do say 4/2. Sorry for the confusion.

When will we get a slat armor set for this vehicle? I don't think it would have to be totally PE, and I would hope it wouldn't. What a nightmare to assemble.

The kit isn't even out yet and you want a slat armour set already?

We gotta let anyone who might be reading this thread know that there is a void that needs to be filled. (so that maybe someone will fill said void)

On that note, while I really want an MGS, my second I want it would be the Canadian variant with the 25mm turret. (Hint Hint )

Now I hope they are not going off the original versions of the MGS. The pic you see here and the actual vehicle are diffrent. But I believe that AFV is on top of it. I wonder how long it will take for AFV to come out with the whole family?

Ric

How is the actual vehicle different? Have any been deployed to the sandbox yet?

Check the box photo (and the one above firing) against Ric's photos in his gallery. You will see that the kit box photo and firing photo show the opening on the left side of the hull for the winch. When you see Ric's production vehicle photo this is covered/not there. Also, the strut brush guards are of the pre-production type (solid and narrow). Hard to see in Ric's photos, but you just can see evidence of the perforated brush guards, which are are all the other production variants too. Finally, the box photo seems to have some sort of plate on the rear at a sharp angle but that does not appear to there on the production vehicle.

4/2 is at this moment starting to deploy to Iraq. They are the first unit to take the MGS with them. They are also taking a small number of Full Spectrum Strykers with them.

I also do not see a problem saying that we want slat at this early juncture. This is carried on 100% of all deployed vehicles, and I think it is safe that most modelers would rather depict a deployed vehicle than a home station vehicle.

I don't see a problem asking about after market stuff for the Stryker either but what was asked is... "When will we get a slat armor set for this vehicle"?

It gets here when it gets here. The Trumpeter Stryker was released how many months after it was scheduled for release....about 5 months?

I know people are excited about the kit but maybe post or ask about some operational photos of the Stryker MGS already in service in the US so we can see unit details such as bumber codes or vehicle names or crew modifications?

Has anyone even seen a Stryker MGS with slat armour yet? If you have then post a photo. Is the slat armour the same as the other Strykers or is it modified at the hull front so it doesn't get blown off from muzzle blast? Will there be slat armour on the turret? These are the kinds of questions that should be asked.

Personally, I hope that any slat armour that does come out is in PE with resin mounts...Accurate Armour has done excellent work on both their Challenger 2 and Warrior bar/slat armour sets...well worth the money.

Of course a Stryker with slat armour is more appealing to build. Contact AFV Club directly to give them suggestions about what is wanted in a kit.

I hope the Dragon and AFV Club Strykers blow the Trumpeter one out of the water...but I'm not holding my breath...the AFV Club Stryker is scheduled for release in late 2007...could mean up to December 31st or later.

Didn't at some point, the MGS barrel have a bunch of...I don't know what you'd call it...clamps all along the barrel, I am assuming to prevent bulging or something like that? I'm not sure if this was a preproduction model or a production variant.

These are newer. I think you can do a Google and get a hit, but it is a vehicle that does not have a designation number since I suppose these are sort of test vehicles. Anyway, it includes non-lethal weapons such as a sniper detection system, a smoke discharger, and the new system that lases people and they get the feeling they are burning - sorry I forget it's name. It might also include Trophy, but I do not think so since I thought that got shelved due to developmental problems. The vehicle still has an RWS too.

I don't know much else about these vehicles.

4/2 is getting prepared to deploy soon. Not sure when they are suppose to have boots on the ground, but they will be there within the next few months.
