The details on the upcoming Trumpeter Soviet 2S3 are out, and we can now show you what is coming in the box.
A while back Trumpeter announced the 1/35 scale Soviet 2S3 self-propelled howitzer, well we can now see what to expect. The 2S3 is based on the Soviet D-20 152.4mm howitzer, and carries a 4-6 man crew. This self-propelled howitzer entered service in 1971 as the Soviet response to the US made M109, and has served in Afghanistan and during two Chechen wars, with it recently have been used during the Libyan civil war.

05543 – Soviet 2S3 152mm Self-Propelled Howitzer Early Version

While the Trumpeter website lists the release date as January 2013, I have found it is still on pre-order on most online vendors.

It looks like it will be a pretty nice kit. I'll be getting one since it will be the first 2S3 in plastic. One correction to the write-up though: It states: "The 2S3 is based on the Soviet D-30 152.4mm howitzer..." The 2S3 gun is actually based on the Soviet D-20 152mm howitzer. The D30 is a 122mm howitzer and is the gun on the 122mm 2S1 SP Howitzer.

Actually Zvesda had one of these. It was actually the first kit of theirs I ever got. The box was open and when I looked at the molding I thought it was pretty good for a company that I did not know. It did build up into a very nice kit. At present it is packed away since we moved but it was the start of me collecting modern SPG's and WW2 ones also, I am sure the wife doesn't appreciate me collecting certain types of vehicles along with everything else. I don't know if they still have it in production but I am sure there are some out there.
