Dragon Models Have just released a mid production 1/35 scale Tiger 1 kit.
With a wealth of details, this 1/35 Scale Tiger 1 kit from Dragon Models, seems pretty impressive. With a moulded Zimmerit finish on the hull and Turret. slide moulded details such as the tow ropes and muzzle break and detailed interior, this looks like a pretty comprehensive kit and fits in nicely with the other Tiger Models available from Dragon Models and Cyber hobby. The addition of battle damaged road wheels and spare tyres is a nice touch, as well as the addition of a detailed underside to the hull to really finish things off.

I believe its described as being a successful business - you know making money as opposed to some model makers charity !! Choosing a product that will make money once their initial investment in the product is covered. Who knows it may even be that being successful and making money on this will allow them to invest in new projects which may or may not be a subject that you want to see come out in kit form. [/quote] Agreed! Of course what you just wrote regarding money-making kits is obvious to everyone. My point is that DRAGON and/or ASUKA/TASCA already have a lot of common parts in the various M4 and M7 kits that could be useful in producing a state-of-the-art M3 Lee/Grant kit, which IS STILL a very important AND relevant representative of early WWII US/Allied armor. British and Commonwealth Lend-Lease Grants, along with US M3 Lees were instrumental components in helping to defeat the AFRIKAKORPS. I think that many modellers will agree with me in that the DRAGON M4-series Sherman, M7 Priest and of course the terrific ASUKA/TASCA Shermans have been very successful with armor modellers. There are plenty of modellers out there that would actually welcome a new Lee/Grant. There are some of us who don't see another 1/35 Tiger I as an absolutely necessary element for life to continue as we know it...

How important a tank may have been is, i'm afraid, largely irrelvent to kit manufacturers. The Little Wille is probably the most important AFV out there, but we dont see too many companies rushing out to produce that This may appear to be the case from reading the opinions of a few modellers on forums, but i'd love to see some sales figures from retailers to back that up. The members of this and other forums represent a very small niche of worldwide modellers, I'd say that if Tasca/Asuka have decided to give up with Shermans it means they didnt sell enough of them. That may be the case, however again I refer you to my above comment. There might be plenty of modellers on forums who appear to want a new M3, but without actually going out and conducting a poll, this may not be the case globally. And again i'd suggest, the fact that no company has bothered with the M3 means they dont think it will sell. Dragon arent stupid, they are in this to make money. The fact they keep churning out Tiger kits means that they must sell a lot of them. If Shermans sold as well as Tigers then this would be "oh not another Sherman" thread.... I have no vendetta against allied subjects and the new Tiger does very little for me. However all of us have our interests and too often get blinkered by this, assuming that the manufacturers are missing a trick by not releasing certain kits we desire.

Hi What he said above....... Although Rob, I'd not waste a whole load of time responding to Dennis. Just take a look at his posting record...Ranting about what should have been released and why what has been released is wrong appears to be another of Dennis's hobbies. It may well be his favourite one given the amount he does Alan

The interest in this tank will more than justify Dragon's offering it. Like I said, some of us pre-ordered the Cyber-Hobby Otto Carius version (a VERY limited and specific tank), and were told not enough we produced. As to Allied kits, the Tasca Shermans seem to have sold well, since a number of them are now OOP. But you can't use forum posts to run a business. The most-vocal posters are frequently a cranky minority who are never happy (if you rated DML announcements by popularity, a large number of them would be "flops," yet their kits sell well). The net-net on this? DML should have a huge seller on their hands, as a fully-accurate Tiger I series (initial, early, mid- and late-) does not yet exist. This middie is the lacking component, but there still will be room for a middie with no Zim.

If someone from Dragon reads this forum, then please, please re-release the Cyber Hobby Witmann 007 Tiger. I have looked high and low for this kit and can't find one anywhere..not even on evilbay!

I'm not an authority on the thinking of Dragon, but I get the impression that they mean it when they say "limited edition". They may release a very similar kit some day, but not the same one. David
