Two new releases have been announced by Dragon Models Limited, one in 1/35th scale, the other in 1/72nd....
Dealing with 1/35th scale first, the latest in the Premium Edition range has been announced in the form of:

DRA6299 - Sd Kfz 171 Panther 'Ausf.D'

Using the original kit as a basis, this 'New' release has been totally updated with a host of new features including new turret, tracks, inclusion of PE and a turned aluminium gun barrel...

Moving onto the latest (and VERY welcome) new release in 1/72nd:

7270 - T34/85 Mod. 1944 (Late Production)

Included are numerous NEW parts including a bonus set of photo-etched "mattress spring armor" as was found on T-34s late in the war. This is, and correct me if i'm wrong, the first time that this 'extemporized' protection has actully been modelled in a kit of this scale. Other features include:

- NEW slide-molded one-piece turret (with separate roof plate)

- Accurately shaped turret representing the T-34/85 Mod.1944 (Late Production)

- NEW Late Production commander’s cupola

- Photo-etched parts for engine deck grills and “mattress spring armor”

- NEW Cartograf decal sheet with a variety of unit markings

- Driver’s hatch includes interior detail

- Commander’s, loader’s and driver’s hatches can be assembled open/closed

- Precise engine deck details

- Slide-molded gun barrel

- Dragon Styrene tracks included

- Slide-molded fuel tanks

- Exhaust pipes with hollow ends

- One-piece road wheels, idler wheels and sprockets

I believe most of the versions of the T-34 in 1/72 scale are already fairly new Dragon 1/35 scale kits.

Yes, but the "bedspring armor" version hasn't been done in 1/34. Maybe one of the AMS makers will step up to the plate.

Even better if DML included it in a kit and save £££££'s/$$$$$$'s on purchasing AM parts Ian

Aber does a set of bedspring armor for the Dragon T-34/85. It is set #35135. http://www.aber.net.pl

I just bought the T-34. After building the T-34/72 1941 I expected to have some interior detail on the gun, but the kit is made of very few parts -and quite expensive. (16 bucks in the local hobby shop. 3 more and I could have bought the 1/35 scale DML T-34... and the King Tiger was $9.) Anyway, it's kind of a disappointment, but still makes a nice "weekend" kit. One question: how do you paint fine mesh? Every time I tried with an airbrush, it clogged up.

Hi, I am a bit disappointed too that prices are up but what can you do For painting try thinning paint as much as possible and paint extremely light layers one at a time. It can be slow business but only way to go. HTH, Niko

Thanks for answering. The thing is, that if the paint is thin, then it will form small dropets of thinned paint on the surface -especially if its metal. (It's been a great pain for me: I tried to spray 90% thinned paint as described by others, but no matter how lightly I "fogged", it always ended up not covering the surface but creating "puddles" of painted thinner.

Hmm, have you cleaned PE parts before painting? It might help. Isopropyl alcohol or even thinner could do the job. And maybe you are still spraying too much paint at a time. Niko
