Didn't know the Germans HAD any armor there. If you have ever been (and I have), it's NOT tank country.

Mostly StuGs but some PzIVs and later some Panthers. The countryside is not good for attacking, but fine for defending AT. When were you there Bill? I have been published on the subject (The Battles for Monte Cassino: Then and Now) and Jeff Plowman, the author of this book was the co-author.

2001. My wife is from a little town outside Venafro north of Naples. We drove down to Pompeii, too. We stopped at the German cemetery, and pointed out the monastery to the kids.

[/quote] There's a little militaria museum in Venafro now. Next time you visit you'll have to plan a little longer to look around. The abbey is beautiful but there's more to see than that.

I'm sure. Kids were little then, so more time to visit now. Her cousin, Benedetto, greeted us with a righteous Scottish brogue after owning some fish & chips shops in Edinburgh. That was unsettling to say the least.
