Italeri has two new sets for February. A box of American figures and another one with modern accessories.
Reference 6522 is U.S. Infantry on board, a previously released set that has been upgraded with new moulds. There are 10 figures of U.S. Soldiers of the WWII era, although only 5 different figures, as each sprue comes twice.

Reference 6423 is Modern Battle Accessories, a comprehensive set that has ammunition, boxes, gas bottles, jerry cans and more. One of those varied sets that always come handy to complement a scene or vehicle.

The D-Day figures would be greAt for the Italeri LCVP I bought years ago and haven't gotten around to building. But I see two problems. 1) the sub par quality of Italeri sculps and 2) the figures are just too static for GI's plowing through 6 foot seas on their way to the beaches. I'd love it of someone could prove me wrong and give me a reason to buy three of these sets.

New tooling sounds nice but I am underwhelmed with twin sprues.

I agree Brian....need a couple with knees bent, riding those waves!

Hmmm.... Whilst more U.S. figures are always welcome, i'm not convinced that these are particularly good. I've seen them in the 'flesh' and frankly, they don't, IMO, come up to the standards that one should expect these days. The poses are far too static and, let's be honest, the original intention was to portray infantry on board an LCM or Higgins Boat (LCVP). In which case they would be crouching or sitting, not looking as if they were in line for the PX to open. They would be incredibly useful for a 'loading' scene, but in a more animated dio.... What is useful, is the addition of ítems such as the flotation jackets although work and research will have to be done with the waterproof 'packaging' for ítems such as the radio. Even the M1 rifles on board were carried in plastic bags. Reasonable enough but some extra effort will have to put into other details...

I have his set and all opinions about them are correct. I knew this when I p/u the set as I plan to have them on the deck of the transport getting ready to embark to the landing crart. Being on board the transport they would be great as is, not the landing craft as they are standing straight up and in any waves (2 foot or 9 foot) they would be splayed and bent to absorb the impact to the knees and backs. As for 2 identical sets, they are multi posse so you can switch arms and heads around to change them up a bit.

You're right, Bob. The poses would be nearly perfect for troops at the rail waiting to go down the nets. IIRC there are pictures out there of a dio somebody did of a landing in the Pacific along those lines, it would be nice to have a similar one for D-Day. Now the wheels are turning and the modeler's ADHD is gonna start kicking in... SWMBO is gonna kill me

Masterbox makes better action figures of D-Day GI's!

is there any reference to the ammo in the other box? I have the set, yet i don't know for which guns they are intended for?
