By ARMORAMA
Pascal Zandt has sent us news of a travel opportunity for a limited number of tank and history fanatics who would like to tour Europe and see sites of famed tank museums, battlefields, and the like.
Originally conceived as a tank-centric tour, including Bovington, Saumur, and Munster, this tour will also cater to plane enthusiasts, as many tank modelers are also interested in aviation. Other points of interest will include two days at the Duxford Air Show, Luftwaffe Museum in Berlin, D-Day/Normandy Beaches , Bastogne, the Military History Museum on the Isle of Wight , U.K. and in Dresden, Germany, Les Invalides in Paris, and even some cultural sites, such as Mt. St. Michel and the Chateau at Chenenceau.

The trip starts in London July 7th , 2017 and ends in Berlin on July 27th. Travelers from all points of the world are welcome.

Trip will include accommodations, most meals, transportation and a surprise activity, which will knock the socks off of armor enthusiasts.

This trip is designed for the serious enthusiast, but spouses/significant others are also welcome and activities will also be organized for them.

Looks like a once in a lifetime experience!!! Unfortunately, I cant participate as we are a single income family and the wifes car was in an accident today so that puts any large expenditures on hold... hope whomever takes advantage takes ALOT of pictures!

Wow! All in one tour...shame that Koblenz or Sinnsheim isn't included. Gotta look into this more as it might well be once in a lifetime for some of us.

Forget Dresden ! They really screwed that one up ... even architecturally .... it's more a "peace" museum now ... waste of time seriously ! Better off going to Munster and Koblenz if your plan was to drive to Dresden, only have the stretch. Cheers Christopher

I liked Dresden, but then I have more of a modern interest - there was plenty of German and ex-DDR stuff to see outside. If you guys can somehow get access to the storage barns there would be so much more to see, but that could be tough from what I hear. The museum itself is a little artsy-fartsy, but there were still a few neat things inside. Jim

Koblenz and Sinnsheim are both great museums, and it would have been nice to include them, but in organizing this tour I had to work primarily with three factors: cost, time and logistics. The idea of putting this tour together was to make it as affordable and comfortable for those that could make it. Time was a problem as not everybody can take three weeks off. A secondary factor was how to keep the interest of those along for the ride. Too much armor would not have been good, as is the case with too much aviation. Knowing that some people on the tour may have never been to Europe, or may never go again, the idea was to break up the military aspect to allow for some cultural experiences and sites. I also liked Dresden, but peace museum or not, Dresden is a wonderful city to visit both from an armor perspective, as well as aviation. But as the organizer of the trip, I can tell you that the activity planned for the "Top Secret" day, will knock armor enthusiates'

For all of you that may be on the fence about this trip. I highly recommend it. I am going along with other So Cal AMPS, Florida AMPS and Orange County IPMS members. It really is a trip of a lifetime. I have not seen another one like this that brings together some of the best Armor Museums, Historical sites as well as an airshow to top it off. Many of us are not just armor modelers, but also do aircraft and have an interest in the history of what we are modeling. So if you have more questions, please feel free to contact me at [email protected] Thank you Joe Bevans AMPS 2nd VP West Region and AMPS So Cal

I just talked to Pascal & I am really psyched up about this opportunity. I haven't been to Europe since 1990 when I finished a 7 1/2 year Army tour (2 tours combined, actually) in Fulda, FRG [Federal Republic of Germany) with the 11th Cavalry as an M1A1 Tank Commander & Master Gunner doing East/West (then) Border duties. I HIGHLY recommend this opportunity!

For anyone downloading the itinerary above, let me fill you in with what's happening on the day 19. We are going to a tank driving school. Most of us have opted to drive the Leopard 1 tank, though some have opted to use the T-55 recovery vehicle to run over cars. Many of us will ride at full speed in a BMP vehicle, etc. If you're really into armor, this trip is for you.
