Dragon’s newest 1/35 scale StuG.III Smart Kit depicts an Ausf.G variant with a layer of poured concrete armour.
One interesting field modification of the tank destroyer StuG.III Ausf.G, in an effort to improve protection levels against enemy anti-tank guns, was to add a layer of concrete over the front of the casemate.
While this practice may have brought psychological comfort to German crewmen, its ballistic protection qualities were questionable. Dragon’s newest Smart Kit depicts this variant with concrete armor. As such, the two halves of the casemate front are completely new to mimic this applique concrete, the rounded elements made as convenient separate pieces.
This concrete armor gives the vehicle a novel appearance that really makes it stand out from other StuG.IIIs. There are other new parts as well, such as tie-down hoops on the front hull made from photo-etched metal. Another special aspect to this kit is the incorporation of Zimmerit. This is a “concrete” example of yet another fine 1/35 StuG.III kit from Dragon!
