Tamiya unveils its latest military figure set at the ongoing 56th Shizuoka Hobby Show 2017.
From Tamiya’s Military Miniatures Series comes its Wehrmacht Tank Crew Set (35354). The kit builds 8 figures – 4 whole and 4 half bodies, realistically posed. Decals are provided for the rank insignias.

I like them and will inevitably buy a set as they're all in quite useful poses and you can never have too many panzer crews. At least I think that;s the case as I seem to have about 8 or 9 different sets. The guy shaking his fist is saying "Shut it! Do not take the p**s out of my baggy trousers. The quarternmaster said that they are the latest fashion for 1941". I don't see a problem with their trousers as in all the photos I've seen and that's thousands, they are loose fitting. I don't think skintight trousers would be particularly comfortable in a hot and sweaty tank or on a battlefield for that matter. Look to be nicely moulded as well. I wish Tamiya would release more figures as they are no longer bin fodder. They're quite nicely moulded these days.

I have always thought the Tamiya figures lacked detail in the heads, neck, shoulders, and lower leg and foot/boot areas. Their dimensions also seem smaller to me ( like, 5' 7"). I do think the M113 ACAV infantry guys are some of their best! Thanks for sharing! Chris

I thought these actually look pretty good. Tamiya seem to have absorbed some lessons from Masterbox and DML here. I am particularly impressed by the ears (yes that sounds weird, but most plastic figure makers seem to have a lot of trouble with these features, including DML). The faces all seem to have expression and are all different too. The ranking and badge transfers included is a nice touch. Overall I'd say a pretty useful set.

I think they are a welcome addition, and it's about time Tamiya got back in the sadlle. The comments on the trousers, well look at Dragon's panzer trousers, they are just as slim. I welcome any new sets, and will shurely get these

I really like these figures and applaud Tamiya for producing new figures that actually people might want to buy. Reminds me of earlier kits that I so enjoyed building. And useful poses as well!

I fail to understand the comments about the figures being unrealistic. They were scanned from actual people wearing the actual uniforms, how could they be more realistic? As a side note, in addition to using 3D scanning technology to desing its figures, Tamiya also appears to have perfected its molding technique. I'm presently working on a couple of figures from their recent US tank crew set, and I have a hard time finding mold seams to clean up. Cheers!

What he's really saying is "if these Arschlochs don't shut the **** up about us, we're going to drop a round right here on them."

It's a sad day when Tamiya actually makes more useful (and better) figures than Dragon.
MAY 18, 2017 - 07:58 PM
Yes, but it's also telling that the business model that Tamiya follows is different to Dragon's. Where one tried really hard to better the other and corner the market with cheap kits, loaded to the lid with "extras" etc, they were popular and to many Tamiya were yesterdays news, a company that no longer cut the mustard. But it seems they (Tamiya) would stick to their tried and tested ways and knew their core market and what appeals to it. Whereas Dragon are now building their sales on rehashes of previous releases with less in the box, squeezing out releases from whatever they can cobble together from existing moulds, still with poor instructions, at greatly increased prices, to the point where Tamiya kits now look like bargain prices for their latest releases.
