Dragon's newest addition is a 1/35 scale Smart Kit of the Type 2 “Ka-Mi” amphibious tank that depicts a tank with early-production pontoon.
Model-makers around the world have been getting a lot more interested in Japanese armor after Dragon released its 1/35 scale kit of the Type 97 “Chi-Ha”.

That kit received a chorus of approval and so Dragon is expanding its range of Japanese AFVs. The Type 2 “Ka-Mi” amphibious tank early-production pontoon, features a single-piece front pontoon whereas the later type’s was formed from two halves.

Other components such as the conning tower, rudder and hydroscope are fully detailed too. There’s widespread use of slide molds to create crisp detail. It also features detailed and easy-to-assemble DS tracks.

This Type 2 “Ka-Mi” Early-Production amphibious tank with pontoons is a unique vehicle platform emanating from the Pacific theater of war.

Kudos to Dragon for releasing these Japanese subjects. Japanese WWII armor is fascinating to me. I will get this one.

I think they should also put a focus back to figures. With all awesome stuff coming, how about Japanese Marines to go with them or japanese at all (except for tankers, I think there are enough on the market) Like tank riders or truck drivers or support crews like mortars or some howitzer. Damit, thought asian stuff would be more natural for Dragon.

What is the difference to the earlier limited white box release 6699 I did bought for a lot of money?

This kit has the front pontoon in one piece and I believe represents the prototype. The previous release has a two part front pontoon.

I already have two, one with, one without pontoons, I don't think this was an important enough tank for me to have 3 different versions. I think I'll pass on this one.
