Released at the same time as the THAAD is the Trumpeter kit on the North Korean short range ballistic missile system.
Also known in the West as “Scud Mod. B”, the Hwasong-5 is a short-range tactical ballistic missile that was derived from the Soviet R-17 Elbrus missile. Production was initiated in 1985, and it is estimated that a total of 300 were made until 1991 or 1992. Hwasong-5 missiles were purchased by Iran in 1985, with technology transfer as part of the deal. Iran was able to establish its production line and produced its own, called the Shahab-1.
