Once again, Adalbertus were present at this year's Nuremberg Trade Show. The company are the exporters for (amongst many other items) a range of very unique figures - ToRo Model (Poland).
This report will concentrate on ToRo Model as they are producing a range of figures no-one else has considered along with another which has multiple applications...

The first of these two ranges is for the Polish 1st Army. The Polish 1st Army fought under Soviet control in the Eastern Front fom 1942 until the war's end. Equipped with Soviet uniforms and equipment (but maintaining items such as the Polish 'Kepi'), it goes without saying that these figures have a lot of potental in dioramas.

Six figures constitute the range:

35F12 - Officer with PPSh in greatcoat

35F13 - Infantryman with PPSh

35F17 - Infantryman with Dyektariev DP MG

The three figures above are AVAILABLE now and will soon be joined by three NEW figures:

35F16 - Kolberg 1945: Infantryman with PPSh in greatcoat (FEBRUARY 2008)

35F17 - Berlin 1945 Tank Crewman, 4th Independent Tank Regiment ( MARCH 2008)

35F18 - Berlin 1945: Studebaker US-6 Driver sitting figure. (MARCH 2008)

I saw all three of the new figures and they really are very good looking figures indeed..

The second of the ranges which i'm highlighting here, is unique in any company's catalogue - Warsaw Uprising 1944:

Currently there are seven 1/35th scale figures in this range which would have many applications for other areas with a slight change of weapons. These figures could be used in a settting for the Spanish Civil War, FFI in the French uprising of august '44, or, going a little further, as Yugoslav or Italian Partisans...

Warsaw Uprising Range:

35F03 - Girl Courier in Warsaw Uprising

35F06 - Squad CO in Warsaw Uprising

35F07 MG Gunner, Warsaw Uprising

35F08 - Street Fighter, Warsaw Uprising

35F09 - Sewer Pipe Raider, Warsaw 1944

35F11 - Polish Home Army Officer 1944

35F15 - Bren Gunner - Warsaw 1944 (includes vignette base)

35A01 - Ruined Alley (vignette base)

Also, as a very unique 'player' in the Uprising, is a 1/35th scale (full) kit of:

35016 - Improvised armoured car 'Kubus' The (original) vehicle actually survived and is on show in the Polish National Army Museum, Warsaw. There was also a reproduction of the vehicle built...

The company website is well worth checking out as the company do some very interesting subjects (such as early-war Polish infantry), resin vignette bases, some excellent upgrades for AFVs along with some highly-unique subjects in historical figures. The website can be seen:

Hi Jim Nice to see this range of figs expanding. Really love their AK figs. Hopefully they'll get around to covering the 1 DPanc and II Korpus as well (?). As a bit of context; the 1 Armiii WP ZSSR was an interesting and very contradictory formation. With the exception of a few ideologically "sound" senior officers, the Army was in the main compossed of Officers and men who had just spent two-three years in the Soviet gulag (concentration camp) system. It can be assumed that many would may have preferred to escape, with their more numerous fellow countrymen, to fight in the west (the II Korpus) but ended up fighting for their recent jailers. I hope that the tragic irony of this isn't lost on readers. The Soviets never trusted the Poles and as a consequence Soviet Officers served throughout the staff structure and made sure that the Army remained committed to Moscow, rather than the recognised Polish Government. Fighting for the Soviets didn't ensure any favours once the war ended and the brave men of the 1 Armii WP (Lenino and Berlin) were just as likely to suffer the same politcial cleansing meated out to Poles (soldiers and civilians) returning from the west. To add to this tragic irony, during the ensuing 50 years of Soviet control, the 1 Armii WP (along with Soviet Army) were lionized by the state - at the complete exclusion of all other Polish formations, whether fighting in the west or at home. Of course the individual reality was quite different. Cheers Karol

Well, there's some news coming soon which should answer that - at the moment i've been sworn to secrecy... I'm going to be doing a series of reviews on the 1st Army figures over the coming days. Meanwhile, thanks for the background you've given us, as you say, it's a fascinating but tragic story...
