The Australian publisher, The Factory Publishing have just sent us details of one of their NEXT books.
Overshadowed by both the War in Europe and the Middle East, the Far East was still a significant conflict. Unfortunately, many publishers have not documented in any significant way the fighting in Burma and, in particular, the use of Armor in that theater.

Announced a few months ago, but now getting closer to release, The Factory Publishing have now sent us sample images of a book which will be at the printers shortly:

Jungle Armour: British and Indian Army Shermans in the Far East (Colour and Markings Series) is written by Dennis Oliver and apart from many previously unpublished photos also includes many full-color profiles on both Indian and British Shermans. The book will retail for $AUD 27.95

As a useful 'tie-in' to the book, Bison Decals will, in December, be releasing two sheets of markings in both 1/35th and 1/72nd scale, which will feature around 50% of the subjects in the color profiles:

BD-35001 - JUNGLE ARMOUR - British and Indian Army Shermans in the Far East.

The decal sheets will include markings for NINE complete models and are:

Sherman Mk V. 19th Lancers. Myebon landings in early 1945.
Sherman Mk V 'Banyard'. Probyn's Horse. Waw Burma in April 1945.
Sherman Mk V 'Cairntcul'. 116th RAC. Burma in early 1945.
Sherman Mk V 'Cairngorm'. 116th RAC. Burma in early 1945.
Sherman Mk III DD. 25th Dragoons. India in late 1945.
Sherman Mk V 'Bidar'. HQ Deccan Horse. Burma in 1945.
Sherman Mk V AOP. 18th Field Regiment, RA. Burma in late 1944.
Sherman Mk III. 13th Lancers. Java, Indonesias in 1946.

Good to see that there are some interesting alternatives for M4s in British and Indian service; Burma has been one of those long forgotten campaigns which has finally had some recognition. The first book I ever read on the Burma/India campaign was Sir William Slim's Defeat into Victory which, IMHO is one of the outstanding books to be written by a commanding general. Slim doesn't fail to acknowledge his mistakes, nor does he overlook the contributions of the foot soldiers and the rear echelons to the eventual victory.

i'd love to do some of the Burma M3 Lees in Echelon's new set but don't know how to "upgrade" the Academy kit. Apparently they had bits of Stuart tanks attached to them - anyone any ideas as to how to model this in 1/35? Kind regards, Nick
