Dragon Models have announced a new figure set. This time the 'Theater of Operations is the Balkans..
6563 - "Fragile Alliance" Axis Forces, Balkans 1943

Covering the Mid-War period, the set contains (as we've seen with some of their recents sets) contains three German SS Figures along with an Italian infantryman.

The set is within the company's '39-45 Series and as usual will include a large amount of personal gear. Weapons, if previous sets are any indication, will almost certainly be from the excellent Gen II sets.

The CG images look good. I hope the actual product is as good. Slowly but surely we are getting some useable injection molded Italian figures. I'll definitely get this one. I'm hoping for an exclusive set of non-North African Theater Italian figures. This is a great start. Jeff

Guys, I am afraid I am not so impressed of them like you. It seems to me that since Ron Volstad ceased to suggest figures by his amazing artworks, the quality felt down.

I think this is a very imaginative set.....actually. IMHO.... The Italian trooper is giving the German officer "what-for" and the other German soldiers are kind of stunned / amused that anyone would talk to an officer that way...but not stunned enough to drop the fruit or ammo and come to the officer's aid. I think it's a nice set of figures and will definitely buy it. Jeff

But each to their own I guess. I'm not sure how much input RV had into what was/is produced. I think the artwork was/is prompted by the request for a set from the manufacturer, and not visa versa. Of course I'm sure Ron's going to tell me otherwise now Rudi

Ah Rudi, how could I resist. I like this set too and Carlos has done another superb rendering. Any time another nation's uniform gets modeled should be cause for celebration. I've been involved with more than 160 figure sets with Dragon over 20 years and of those, probably 95% were based on my drawings. Dragon chose the subject (often from suggestions I offered and it was left to me to develop the content including poses. That amounts to well over 600 figures designed so you might understand the difficulties in coming up with new ideas. I am happy to have a rest from it and let the other team have a go at it. (Thanks for your support, Rasto)! I suspect that the current team works a bit differently with the sculptor taking the lead. In any event they are giving a fresh view of things and have done things that I wouldn't have thought of. Cheers, Ron V

Cool set, I would buy this just for the 'Wolf of Tuscany' italian soldier. I can't quite make out his insignia - is he an alpine trooper? Notice one German has a mermite can, so obviously his Italian comrade is complaining about the crappy chow. No comparison with italian food !

Haha, I knew it Ron! Okay, so I wasn't entirely wrong The subject still originated from the vendor, but the rest was up to you - with the usual creative to and fro'ing

Not at all, Mr.Volstad (or can I can Ron? ) Your amazing boxarts are the half of the reason why I chose DML (second is quality of kits). Hopefully you will bring some more in future. But having you here I would really like to ask what is new with your long-awaited website? I think it was announced for autumn. Thanks in advance for answer.

I can see the potential for ths being a useful set, with the exception of the Italian, it's just another set of SS guys
