Another day, another variant from Cyber-Hobby. The company have just announced a New variant on their Opel Blitz in 1/35th scale.
The FUTURE, 1/35th scale release will be:

6716 - German 4 X 2, 3t Cargo Truck (Early Type Platform)

No details have been published on this release yet, but there are a few assumptions we can make from this announcement.

Firstly, most of the previous 'Blitzes' from other manufacturers have featured Mid/Late war (or in several cases nondescript) variants of the Blitz. It's positive to see something as 'TIME-SPECIFIC'....

Secondly, with the quality demonstrated in their original release (6670) they simply knocked the opposition out the running.

All though is not sweetness and light. Why, if they have this (and 6670) available don't they release it BEYOND Cyber-Hobby? This is as mainstream as vehicles could possibly get. It's one thing releasing the paper panzer which was doodled by an engineer on the cuff of his lab-coat one wet tuesday in late march 1944 when nothing much else was happening, another thing entirely to produce the most seen truck in German service. The logical release would be within DML's 39-45 Series and get bigger sales?

Finally, it really isn't an announcement to get the adrenalin coursing through the Soft-Skin enthusiast's body. We've recently seen the Henschel announced (with a breadth of use which is impressive), the big Einheitsdiesels and the 'German' Ford (both released) the Blitz is not really as 'needed' as other trucks. Yes, maximize the moulds but generate a bit of excitement with something genuinely innovative.

Now, if this announcement had been for a Blitz ambulance, a radio vehicle or even a refueller, that would have been VERY different!

Useful undoubtedly. Exciting though?

I can say the Opel Blitz is my favorite utility truck of WWII, certainly a good build! They did use them in North Africa did they?

Yes, they did in both 2x4 and 4x4 versions. I would love to see a 4x4 and a bus! Oh, and an armoured flak one, too......hmmmm

Well... Bring this truck as a regular kit with a appropriate price tag or leave me alone with it... That's it... For the Tamiya and Italeri trucks are excellent bases and after all we are modellers and can do any version ever used with these two kits, some resin wheels and a bit of basic modelling... I will NEVER pay a cyber hobby price tag for a kit of an original that is already rendered by two other companies... Just my 5 cent....

I've heard the Italeri cab is still more accurate.

Man, I leave this site for a few months pursuing other modeling interests (read aircraft modeling) and Dragon releases one Cyber Hobby Blitz and is now about to release another! The Opel Blitz is my all-time favorite WWII transport/cargo vehicle and so I've been wanting one from someone other than Tamiya and Italeri for a while for the reasons we know (although I wouldn't go as far as to say that the Tamiya kit isn't a nice kit overall). Now, although I missed the first kit (6670) when it came out, with all this talk here on this thread about it I went looking for it to see if I could find one at a decent price. Sure enough, it seems to be sold out everywhere and, in those places where I could find it available, prices are between $75 to $100. Luck would have it, however, that ebay was selling one for just $45 bucks with free shipping just 30 mininutes ago. Needless to say, I got the sucker. Looking forward to getting it and checking it out. Thanks as always for sharing these news. Don't know what I'd do without them... Rob

It still seems to me grossly short-sighted to release as popular a subject as the Blitz from CH. In the Green Box, it's going to be available from everyone who sells or distributes DML kits - therefore maximizing sales. Put in a white box and it simply ISN'T going to sell as many (less distribution). I always thought that CH's idea was to market the more obscure and specialized subjects? This flies in the face of logic. The Blitz was produced in the thousands - not like other CH releases in single figures... IMO, bad marketing...

I agree completely, Jim! Don't know what they were thinking. I'm still happy, however, that we get to see another Blitz even if under the CH label. Rob

I don't understand this lamblasting of the CH blitz over it's price. It retails for $39.95. Tamiya's Blitz retails for about $40.00 and Italeri's old (but still nice) Blitz retails for, get this, $38.00 (these are U.S. prices). Now I know those kits can be bought for much less but thats not the point. Im talking about MSRP. Now why Dragon is making this another "White Box" release is unknown to me, and most of you as well. Maybe they like reading all the bit-hing that goes on when they do these kind of things. Maybe their market guys decided another limited run of this vehicle will be best for them at this time. They seem to have been doing pretty good so far as Dragon is with out a doubt the top dog armor manufacturer in the business right now (anyone who disagrees has blinders on) and you don't get there by making alot of bad marketing decisions. Well... This may be true for US market. Here in Germany the prices at my favourite dealers are as follows: Italeri ~ 14 Euros Tamiya ~ 23 Euros Cyber Hobby ~ 48 Euros As you can see one can get 3.5 Italeris or 2 Tamiyas for the price you have to pay for one of those CH Blitzes... I dare to say that CHs Blitz isn't twice as good as the one of Tamiya and even the Italeri one renders in an outstanding model with some basic modelling skills....
