AFV Club have released another addition to their growing stable of Churchill tanks, this time the Mk IV AVRE.
Following on from the successful release of previous versions of the Churchill, AFV Club have now released the Mk IV AVRE. Production of the Mk IV totalled 1,622, and the main difference between it and the Mk III was the introduction of a cast turret.
The AVRE version was armed with a 290mm spigot mortar which fired a 40lb bomb to a maximum distance of 80 yards in order to demolish blockhouses and the like. The bomb was nicknamed the "flying dustbin". Subsequent to WW2, the mortar was replaced by a 165mm demolition gun.
AFV Club's kit contains 546 parts plus 150 individual track links, (as well as two lengths of vinyl track for those who like me hate individual links), 20 clear parts, 41 etched parts, and 25 springs as well as the usual assortment of tow cables, decals, instructions etc. The box art (see right) is impressive.
Definitely one to wait for.
