Hey troops, this is next in the breech,....
As the title says i'm aiming for an Afghanistan deployed tank. My issue now is that the Combat Camera website seems to be down and i'm having trouble with reference pics, especially the slat armour.
I was gonna wait until i deploy next April and get some first hand pics, but i'm dying to get this one underway before hand!
If anyone can help me out I'll buy the first Timmie's in KAF!
cheers

As you can see in the link to the images I posted the extended fenders and the lower hull dust flap are not mounted....as included in the Perfect Scale 2A6M conversion kit.
Combat Camera goes down every once in a while, especially on the weekends...check back there regularly.
More photos will be forth coming but just be patient...the guys aren't over there to take walkaround photos for AFV modellers...they are there to kill Taliban.
Don't forget about the Modern Canadian Vehicles website....this will be the premier site for info on the Canadian Leopard 2A6M CAN.

Now you have got me very excited with this blog. I guess the biggest challenge will be the slat armor.

Thanks for the links Mike and Jason
I've looking forward to getting this underway for a while now, hopefully get some preliminary work done this weekend.
And yes the lat armour will be my first major scratch project, so this could be interesting!
cheers

Very cool subject!
I also have the Perfect Scale Modellbau A6M conversion but mine will be the regular German version. I'll follow your build closely and hope, everything works out fine with the conversion set.

As you can see the fenders and dust flap are not mounted.
Hard to believe they are painted in three tone camo!
Here is what you get in the conversion set,
The only issue in my set was the rather thin front mud flap, which had some air holes and a small tear in the corner. As it won't be used for this project it's all good, but just something to remember when buying resin sets.
cheers

Rick,
Are you planning to scratchbuild the slat and mounts or wait for after market parts?
If you are scratchbuilding it what are you going to use for the mounts?

Not only that but best of all it's actually Canadian! If only temporarily. Wonder how long we will have the loaners from Germany. I bet Jason knows.

From the info that I have I come up with from several sources there are about 31 support arm brackets that attach the slat armour to the turret and about 60+ support arm brackets for attaching the slat armour to the hull.
Should be quite a project before even starting the slat armour.

Actually the decals should be very easy for someone.....such as Lawrence Goh at Echelon Fine Details to come up with a set of Canadian Leopard 2A6M CAN decals once more of the Canadian registration numbers get photographed to give more vehicle options.
Markings so far:
-2 x black Maple Leafs
-CFR #s with little Maple Leaf...front and back
-ladder dude x 2...at least it is the same stencil on both sides not a mirror image.
It is very likely the same type of white barrel rings to denote Troop designations as on the C2s will be used.

That would be awesome if Echelon did a set for the 2A6M, I used the C2A1 set on my C2 and they were fantastic. If Eduard did the Slat, well It would be perfect!

I think that Voyager would do a better job on the slat....especially the mounts.
Eduard is all PE and it loses some of the 3D effect when bending and folding the PE into solid parts.
Voyager puts out AFV sets that combine PE and resin parts....the mounts would be much better looking if cast in resing than folded PE. The additional glacis armour can't be done in PE....it should be a resin casting.....same with the new antenna mounts.
At any rate hopefully someone will come out with it.

Congrats to canadian chaps, great acquisition!

Little update for today .
Installed the PSM belly armour and got the basic hull together.
I also noticed that the Tamiya kit does not come with the front hull add on armour .
This just keeps getting better!
cheers

The Tamiya kit wouldn't have the glacis armour as it is not part of a regular 2A6.
The armour is not even part of a regular 2A6M.....it was added for the Canadian variant.
Great start to your glacis armour....keep it up.

Thanks for the link Matthew, ya found those already.
Not to much time on the work bench this week, but I managed to get the glacis roughed out. I'm going into town on the weekend to pick up a resin kit and was thinking on making a spare set (and as a test since I have never done it before) so I haven't glued them on yet.
cheers

Good idea about making copies for parts in resin. Should be a real time saver once you get going. Glacis turned out real nice.

I've spell checked the title for you. Looking good so far Rick. Looking forward to see you tackle the slat armour.
