I can probably work this one in to my busy schedule. Count me in.
Maybe a Tiger or KT maintainence dio.
Who will be the magic number 10?

Sounds good, almost missed this one. I've got a lot on my plate right now, but I think I could squeeze this one in.

Great, then I think we are the required 10. Also I thin that more will join whe this is up and running and I get some banners done.
May I suggest a revised title when this is submitted to reflect that the Battle of the bulge is included? Something like "Battle of the bulge / Siegfried line", "At the borders of the fatherland 44-45" or similar?
When we have the campaign submitted and approved I can make some banners

Folks, as of this moment, we've 11 people, so I'm submitting this campaign right away. I'm glad to have you all aboard!
Jesper, you've got a good point. The campaign title will be "Borders of The Fatherland '44-'45."
Off I go to submit this!

Great! As soon as it is approved I will start to make some banners. Any pictures of bunkers and/or fortification from 44-45 will be appreciated

Great! Any indication already what the start and end dates will be?
I'm planning on a small dio with a squad of GI's, using this (great) Tamiya kit:

Hey, Martin! The start date is Feb 1 /08 and will run to the end of June.
Loved building that set of figures.... may have to buy a duplicate set just for this!

I'd love to join this one. If 1/72 scale is OK, I've got a couple of candidates I'd love to make a dio out of.

Woohoo! We are now officially a campaign!
So let's all start signing up and planning what we're going to build! Since our start date is February, we've got time to clear our plates and research things. I'm looking forwards to seeing what we all build! Cheers!

Cool. I will go and enlist.
Here is what I am planning on building unless I find out that it is incorrect for the Siegfried Line.
http://www.squadron.com/ItemDetails.asp?item=VE1642
I will have to research it and see if it would be correct.
Thanks for the vote of confidence..........however I am by no means an expert. Permanent defensive positions are just an interest of mine. I would be more than happy to try and help research anything that I can. I have a book that is just specifically about the Siegfried Line however it doesn't really go into much detail about the positions. It mainly deals with the fighting that took place in one area by one specific U.S unit. I will have to look through my other books and see if I can find anything.
Thanks again for the campaign. This should be a cool one!!

Harv would probably have a better idea than me.

I have another book that I ordered on the way. Any early Christmas present to myself I guess. Hopefully it will have more pictures of the bunkers and other defensive positions that were used. I have read that there were some 14,000 pill boxes, bunkers, in the Siegfried Line (West Wall). So that should leave room for several different types of submissions.
I found this at Squadron that I may get and use instead of my first idea. I guess the name explains it all. http://www.squadron.com/ItemDetails.asp?item=CD1141
When the book gets here I will let all of you know if it is any good and I will gladly help anyone that I can.
Maybe I will be able to find an answer for you on that Mike.

I know that the Germans used 'tank turret' pill boxes in Italy (like the "Pantherstellung"). Does anyone know if they used these in the Seigfried Line also?
Maybe I will be able to find an answer for you on that Mike.

Hi!
I'd like to join this campaign (and I probably will) . I have an old model of KingTiger from Ardennes controffensive - it has to be remade (it's one of my first models and I've totally ruined it). I think it would match the campaing (Ardennes controffensive also is acceptable as I understand?) It would give me a kick to repaint this model and also to make a diorama for it... What do you think about it?
Lewis, I've sent you message about this campaing and it's forum - as you can see I've found the forum (grrrreat success) so you can scrap my letter .

Harv, that would be great. And based on my reading/research, your plan seems to fit right in. Especially if there were..... 14,000? Yeah, that should leave it fairly open.
Martin, too cool. Any references available to us are welcome!
Andrzej, you read correctly. I think re-working that King Tiger and building a diorama will be okay. (I think re-working can be harder than building new, sometimes...) Welcome aboard!

Great! I've just joined this campaign. I'll investigate what has to be done with my King Tiger this evening and give you some feedback. I have to repaint it for sure, but I have to check if it needs some more work (it probably does...). I'll have to remake also all figures I'll put on the diorama.
I'll also have to plan a diorama as well

HARV & Martin -
Thanks for the offers for info, anything would help and I'm sure that others will appreciate it also. I've got Osprey's 'Campaigns' "The Siefried Line" and though there are inferences that the 'tank turrets' were used, I haven't seen the evidence yet. It is mentioned that 88s, etc. were used to cover important areas like bridges, river crossings, road junctions etc. so I'd think that any resource, like a 'Pantherspellung' type set up would have been a logical option like used in Italy. Did find an great dio idea as a back-up. They mentioned how US troops used bazooka teams to blast the rear and entrances to bunkers. Thought a scene showing that would work out well. Lots of options and time to play around with ideas. Anyway, I'm in and will let you all know what I find out. Thanks again and keep us updated,

Great news about the campaign being approved. I have a couple of ideas up my sleve and look forward to get started.
Great initiative, Lewis. It has been too long since we had a diorama campaign

Yesterday I've checked the condition of King Tiger I'm planning to rework - tracks broke when I tried to take them off (they've dried too much...) . I have to buy new ones - I'll probably buy Friulmodel's metal tracks - they're quite expensive but I want to have this Tiger done as good as I can.

Hi Guys,
interesting Campaign-topic, when reading the thread I already got some ideas. Count me in! February is excellent to start with. Probably a vignette or a small dio I will build.
Greetings from hazy Amsterdam,
Jelger

Great site. I think I have to refresh my German a little, but it's very usefull even if you just watch pictures. Great bunker layouts... I wanted to build a bunker diorama since a long time - maybe this should be subject for another campaign as well (bunkers only).
