Sean I love the camo and the resulting weathering affect. Great M109.

Some very cool builds so far guys. Id love to join this campaign, but I really don´t have the time to commit .... and know I wont complete it in the time frame. Then theres my Hummel crying out to be built as well. Great reading through this thread and seeing what you´ve all done so far though!!

Well,

I have just started, especially when comparing with some of what has been done already by a few... but here is my project:

This is what is supposed to resemble in the end:

This is what is supposed to get me there:

And this is what I have done so far:

I hope I get to finish the kit in time... I might have been a bit anthousiastic about the available time.

That said, first verdicts:

the thing is HUGE!!

The Revell kit is nice. Some of the detail is perhaps a bit crude (like the hinges and handles). Fit is generally good (seems to be off at the front of the hull). There are some issues with shallow sink marks on the side of the turret and the hull.

As the arrangement of stowage of the Dutch is different, numerous locator holes have to be filled as well.

Verdict about the Eduard PE: Some of the set is superfluous (not used on the images I have been able to grab from the net). Some of parts are flat out wrong (most noticeably the door to the left front stowage compartment, as the hinges are in wrong place). the stowage arrangement as given in the manual is completely off in many places, even for the German version. So simply do not follow the Eduard instructions blindly.

What is left to do?

Prepare the kit for the PE, add PE, and replace the handles.
Attempt to scratch a new gun travel lock (none available for firing position).
Attempt to scratch the airco unit (?) (attached to left rear). If anyone has good images of the rear of the vehicle I would be a very happy me .
Think of some way to get the add on armour attached and done. I am looking for good images of the arrangement on the deck.

Cheers,

Harm

Good luck with the Panzerhaubitze 2000 Harm. I think you are building a Dutch one stationed in Afghanistan, right? "Long Arm of ISAF"?

I built one this year as a German vehicle. The kit was very very disappointing for me, but the vehicle is so huge and patronizing that it looks good. I didn't even bother to correct anything, even sink marks and such. Here's mine:

With PE and dedication, I hope your turns out to be much much better. Watch out for that stupid tracks though...

Hi All
All change with my build, the brass tubes worked resonably well but once I tried to solder the brackets & framework to them it all went T***up. The frame wouldn't stay together & the weight was beginning to get too heavy for the small strut's.
So it's back to the beginning & I've managed to get a set of the Calioppe rockets from a Italeri kit that I've started to use as the base for all the conversion to the truck mounted tubes. Still no luck with any other reference pictures so it's a lot of guess work.
Have managed to have a basic set up which I shall work on untill I'm happy.
Here's a few in progress picture's.

It's all held together with blue tac for the pictures .
Still need to work out the raising mechanism & firing arrangement & then add all the nuts & bolts etc.

Yup,

I am going for one of the "Beasts of Tarin Kowt." I think I have most of what I would need... I was able to get some Echelon ISAF markings, and have Dutch spares (as part of the Echelon Dutch Leo's/YPR set).

I think the paintjob looks quite good (that is what I am worrying most about... haven't painted in forever). I got the warnings about the tracks... so I might go for aftermarket ones.

Thanks for the encouragement and vote of confidence!

If you are talking about the pzH2000, the US does not use it.

The only ones so far to use the gun in combat have been the Dutch (they have three in Uruzgan). And they have proved highly popular with the Canadians in Kandahar province and the Australians, Americans and other coalition forces deployed in Uruzgan (just as allegedly the Dutch F-16's and Apaches). And of course not so popular with the Taliban, who nicknamed them "the Beasts of Tarin Kowt."

At least this (bring stuff that actually packs a punch) was one lesson learned from the Srebrenica mess. The Canadians have been smart enough however to bring the tanks (the Leo II's actually also being (converted) Dutch cast-offs).

Here's a brief update on my M4A1 81mm MMC build.

I have the first coat of base paint on. Most of the conversion is done, just some minor details left.

The rear stowage boxes are done and I've added the mortar base plate stowaged on the rear deck.

I have the mine racks to add, after I remove the molded in mines. I don't really like them and I think I'll use the racks for some other stowage.

Thanks for looking and all comments are welcome.

Steve

i finally rounded up all the figures for my dio- i was waiting on the mini-art german SPG crew- i would classify them as a "fixer-upper" kit the fits not the best and i shall refrain from commenting on the heads as they were discarded immediately. I ended up using bits and pieces from Dragon, Alpine, Tamiya, and mini-art to achieve the proper poses.

now that the figures are constructed i will return my attention to the Hummel and assemble the gun, tracks and running gear

Ok, I'm in
Today I have M7 Priest and M12, and also M21 Halftrack 81mm Mortar Carrier (if it can be). M7 and M12 need some finish work and accesories, M21 is not started.

Regards

Jeff, if I understood you well (my english is not good...): I think about start on the Halftrack campaign, but now I have only M21 (not strarted) and M16 (just started, lot of work to do), both Tamiya's, Dragon's will be later . Paint: all american stuff I paint brush with Humbrol 155, IMO this is the only correct shade for WWII U.S. vehicles, selected according to original paint, I have original Dodge WC54 Ambulance, 1:1 of course . Colour on my photos is not like in real, is too brown even after correction.
I have not yet crew members to M7 and M12, still looking for (I think that's only Hobby Fan...), but I know they must be.

I was doing the Pz2000 awhile ago, also with the PE Eduard Set.
I'm not entering it for the campaign since I started it earlier, only did the wheels and lower parts.
I had some trouble with the sanding and adding some of the PE.

Even if it's not for the campaign I will post some pics.

For the campaign I'm entering the Brummbar and either a Wespe(if i can have the Gun barrel and a CMK interior on time) or a Hummel.

My home PC is a mess so no pictures so far...

Great to see all the builds around here !

Today I managed to complete the construction of my M109A6 Paladin, minus the tracks.

Here's a WIP photo of the turret, the details were satisfactory.

Here's the turret fully assembled with the Barreldepot's Paladin barrel:

I made a few mistakes during assembly, notably with the turret baskets and the kit is also not %100 accurate, but I'll leave it that way, it looks like a Paladin

The other side of the turret:

The only part I can complain about it the periscope thingy on the turret. As from this pic from Primeportal, it should have transparent glass on the front. Italeri gives an ordinary plastic piece and it was too thick to cut away. I planned to cut away the middle, replace it with transparent plastic; however finding the task too difficult I left it as it is.

The real thing:

The Italeri thing:

Final assembly, waiting for paint and tracks..

Now, onto the AFV Club tracks for this beast. I might also start painting, but since I am out of the city for the weekend, it will probably be next week before I really get anything done.
