Those tracks look very realistic! What did you use for the antennas?

Lars

G'day Lars !

I used 0.25 mm spring wire (from my local Hobby Store) for the Antenna's. I drilled some holes in the resin bases, and used CA glue to set them in place. I was going to try to use styrene or brass and create a tapered aerial for each, but I decided to give it a miss this time.

The tracks came out Ok. I've since put a coat of Testors Dull coat on them and given them a wash of Mig Wash Brown. The only problem with these Tamiya vinyl tracks is they are difficult to clean up (the little bit of flash). Next time I'm going to try to burn the flash away with a cigarette lighter

Cheers

great leopard bud the antena and the looks look superb

intereasting build bud !

Hi James !

Thanks for looking and your comments !

The interesting stuff starts now. I'll be finishing off the lower hull and I'll weather the wheels tomorrow before I put on the resin 2A4 side skirts. (I've had some fit problems which I've since resolved).

After that I guess I'll be into painting the Camo - first I'll add the last few bits (lights etc) to the hull

Cheers

Hey mate

Dont know how i missed this thread for so long. What a great idea!

In response to the commanders .50, I wouldnt do it with an RWS. Besides from blowing out the cost of the vehicle, the RWS's are not really suited for (literally) smashing through Mount Bundy. ASLAV only got it as a rapid aquisition when it was deployed to Iraq.

Id just scratch a ring mount with that would clear the height of the periscope.

Also, have you thought of putting a fridge attached to the rear bustle bin Leo 1 / Abrams style?

Pawlak, This is looking very nice. The weathering on the tracks is just right. Keep up the good work, I can't wait to see some camouflage!

Hey Ray !

Welcome aboard

This has been a lot of fun !!

I'm putting the skirts on ATM, a few fit issues between the Hobby Boss kit (which I'm using the 2A6EX bits from) and the Tamiya base. Nothing a file and a bit of emery board won't fix though

Not sure about the refrigeration unit - Maybe I can scratch something up. Do you have pic's of the Abrams unit ?

Perhaps I'll just 'bolt' it on to the back of the Turret, beside the spare tracks ........

I've just dusted the wheels - this beast is looking nice

I think I'll do another later on - I'll have plenty of decals for a few, with the Leopard MH set (MAD606).

Thanks for the tip on the 50 Cal. I think I'll adapt the Abrams unit and use a spare loaders ring mount for it.

Cheers

Thanks Bill.

Hopefully the Camo is only a couple of days away

The 50 cal has got me thinking........

I will need to do a bit of work to the turret now (it was basically finished). If anyone has tips on how I can clear the Peri with a commander mounted 50 cal... I'm all ears

A bit of an update.

Side skirts fitted (maybe a little adjustment to do ? The brackets will still need to go on aswell), and wheels weathered lightly The tracks aren't dusted yet, that'll happen at the end.

Well it's starting to look like a Beast now

I'm trying to sort out this 50 cal for the commander. I've added a ring mount to the commanders cupola. I thought about using the Tasca cradle mount and glueing it onto the ring (it's on there temporarily), but it's a bit primitive.

So I'm looking at putting the 'Pintle mount' for the 50 cal from the ASLAV PC I have (that kit will have a RWS). I think that will probably be the go so I'll need to add the brackets from that setup to the ring I've made.

BTW: the 50 cal on the ring will swing around from just infront of the Peri to the LHS of the hatch hinge (the storage point), so it can be out of the Peri's way when required

Thats my story anyway

Here are some pics of how 'The Beast' looks now.

The Mag 58 with the Platt mount is on the loaders cupola as well

Now how am I going to do that Pintle mount ....................

Thanks Scotty !

I need to add a few small bit's and pieces to the hull and turret and that'll be it.

The Camo will really set it off I think. The Aussie 3 color Camo scheme will be brilliant (see below)

I'm happy with where I've gone with the 50 Cal too. It'll also add a bit more menace to the whole project.

I was thinking about Barracuda also Now that would be something wouldn't it

Hi Lars.

No '50 Cal' RWS on this one. Just a pintle mounted '50' for the commander. I should have that one on the beast tonight.

Now everyone loves a 50 Cal don't they ?

The commanders got one now

There are a few bubbles in the resin mount, so I need to fix those and fit the ammo box. But here it is ATM.

Any feedback would be appreciated

The balance point on the gun is wrong, so I need to change the mounting point bracket ends to get that corrected.

The commanders vision block still needs to be fitted at the front of the cupola, and the Peri needs to be assembled and painted at the rear of it.

I'll add a few bits to the hull tonight

Cheers

Paul

It looks nice now. But I think it would look better with a RWS. When buying a new tank for your countrie you also want the latest upgrades.

Thanks Scotty.

It looks like it's tearing a little. What kind of paper are you using ?

Have you ruled lines along the paper and used those as a guide ?

Scott,

Good attempt on the Barracuda......you are aware that Barracuda has a solid back and you wouldn't be able to see the turret surface?

Essentially it is mats with the scalloped netting on top of the mats.

The Balance point on the 50 cal is now fixed. I'll file a few rough bits away and detail the mount a little before priming.

I've also added all the detail to the hull (except the brackets for the side skirts) - I just need to putty a few small inperfections and gaps and it'll be time for priming

Well it's ready for priming

I'll add the Commanders front Vision Block, his Periscope, and the gunners sight doors after the beast is painted.

The 50 Cal Ammo box will also be done then. Tools and tow cables will follow after painting and before weathering.

PS: Phil H, I haven't forgotten the infantry phone box, I think that'll go above the RHR mudflap.....

Hi Lars !

I always use Tamiya Primer straight out of the can. I may try it through the Air Brush next time though for greater control.

I'll use the Testors Dull coat to seal the Camo when it's done too.
