Hi Richard. My almost finished Karl is in the gallery for the Big Guns campaign. Well the railway bits and gun are finished, but the base needs some woodgraining to be done.

That looks amazing, I hope mine can turn out to look that good in the end. Mines going to be a little more dirtier as it's been roamin the open plains looking for a frontline to destroy Good Job on it!

It Is time to see the almost completed project.
I have yet to paint the crew and weather the suspension. If you didn't know already, I'm planning a diorama for this thing. Still haven't decided which I'm going to do. First off, I need to know of a figure that could look like it can drive Eva. Any ideas? I'm also only going to lightly weather the tracks for now until I start making the diorama, then I'll make the tracks so covered with dirt, the point of the first weathering would be useless. Oh well. Here's Eva without her crew, driver, and tools but with a fresh pair of tracks. Construction is now complely finished and cmy has it been complicated to make this thing. If y'all want, I can go in-depth about every bit of construction from step one with any issues, buildibility, and so on.
I'll try to start painting the figgies soon and see what I can do.

Any questions, comments, or answers (especially to my diorama idea) are extremely appriciated!

Here are the pics now that the words are over...
Overall pics:

Bad pics of my attempt to make a rougher texture on the shell:

Do I need to change the colors of the fire hydrants?

I thought I aligned this right but I guess not. (It's not noticable anyway)

These are pics of the cockpit in which the figure needs to be in. It almost looks like any Panzer 1 driver could fit in there. How do the dials look? do I need to add anything?

The builds not over yet, I still have the weathering and dioram which are a WHOLE another undertaking.

If anyone has a dirt cheap AA gun (any kind) or maybe even a munitionstrager, I'd be interested, but it may take a while to regenerate my funds

Hey rich she looks good my friend. excellenet job.

A few points if i may.

1. the fire extinguishers are good.
2. The tracks are too clean bud. There are two ways to go about this and get a good effect. The first is a inexpensive way i read about in augusts' FSM, the gentleman who used white glue, water, walmart oil paint and whipped it up in a bowl to make a very nice looking mud. Second, and more expensive. Head down to the LHS and get some plaster, mix that with a bit of oil paint and some small rocks. The second give the best look, but is more expensive.
3. The walkways could use some more weathering. Paint chips and some mud from the crew would be good to start with.
4. Overall, the model could use a wash or filter. I'm not good enough with either to help you out with them but here are two sites to help out.
http://www.missing-lynx.com/rareworld.htm
http://www.miniatures.de/painting-weathering-vehicles.html
http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/index.html

For the good points.
1. Good job painting. I can't see too many places where the paint has build up unwantingly.
2. The cockpit looks great, i like the decent detailing.

I noticed that you said you haven't weathered it yet but the above info could help you before you go jumping into it. Good luck bud, she looks very very good.

Thanks Justin,

I took a look at those websites but I'm not to sure if I want to try this adavanced stuff just yet, I may just try simple stuff first like the pastels and work from there. There's a tutorial in making dioramas at missing-lynx that I'll use to basically make the outer appearance of the track non-existant as like you said earlier, it probably sank into the ground a lot.

Thanks a lot for the tips and the comments. I appriciate it a lot. You're also doing some true modelling on that JP IV, as nothing beats putty and ingenuity to make a kit special.

Rich, thanks for the comments on the JP. I completely understand what you mean about advancing into new and harder painting techniques, i just dove right in and am now going back to the basics! (check my Pz.II thread)

Oh, by the way, igonore that monkey guy. No fire extinguishers are red. they were all a basecoat color, panzergrau or dunkelgelb, NOT RED!

Thanks for telling me the color of the exstinguishers, it saves me from painting some really small parts. I figure I'll gradually weather it over time, as what I figure you can always add more weatherong but you can't take it away, so I figure start with the simplest and work from there.

These questions are for anyone out there:
1. Anyone know of a driver figure that fits the Panzer I or II? Both driver's stations look generally the same.
2. If anyone has an AA gun or a munitionstrager for extremely dirt cheap, I'd be interested. Most likely the AA gun would be sufficient.

Thanks for the comments,
Richard

Merry Christmas everyone.
I'll be gone from a computer (and the Karl too) for the next week or so. But luckily the Big Guns campaign ends Feb. 9 so I still have plenty of time to finish. Thanks everyone for your comments thus far as all of them have been helpful and I can't wait for the Karl to be finished.

Have a merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Thanks Ant!

I'm back, (Jan. 5) so I'll be able to start up again. I'm just waiting to pick up some white glue and paints to make some mud that will be filled with grass to swab all over the tracks and I'm also going to start working with the pastels. I should be finished by mid January. Thanks you all for the inputs and I'ved one "Eva" so far to the best I can and I'm glad I'm doing better than I thought. Anyway, I'll start on it soon.

Thanks Everyone!

Thanks Panzerup12/David!
I have to cram in "Eva", but because the campaign "Incoming II" has been extended but I plan to finish it by February anyway. I still can't also peel myself away from my new XBox 360!!!!!!!! Desicions, Desicions...

Alright, small but useful update. Here are the tools finally installed. I didn't have much light (can't find my tripod either) But luckily when I finish Eva, I can create a big photostudio usin some lights from my lizards cage to make everything nice and lit up. Anyway, the tools were painted with Tamiya Metallic Silver and the handles with Humbrol Acryllic #62. It looked like a wood paint so I used it. Tell me what you guys think.

Sorry for the long gap between work but I'm waiting anxiously for word for my Eagle Board of Review. Thanks all!

Here are some questions I have:
1)Anyone know a figure that fits the Panzer I or II compartment? Both are the same size as the cockpit for the Karl and I need a driver for my diorama.

2) Anyone have a flak gun and maybe even a crew they'd be willing to part with for cheap. It's just going to be oob and doesn't have to be a fancy kit. Just something that can fill in a little space.

Many thanks to everyone!

Hi Justin:
She's a Mali Uromastyx/ spike tailed lizard. I've had her for about 4 years now. Another one of my hobbies is woodworking and the entire cage was handbuilt by me and my grandfather. you can tell the lights I'm going to use. I just have to remember to make sure the lights aren't too close for taking pictures or else I'll have a waste of a lot of bucks!

Anyway here she is: I know

Allrighty then, now for something actually pertaining to "Eva":
I bought the paints for coloring the mud that I'm going to make by this weekend. For dirtying up Eva, I'm going to smear the mud all over the tracks and a little on the wheels and then add the pigments when done. I will soon have the model done once and for all. But then I have to make the diorama:|

Thanks everyone (especially you Justin)

Hey rich, that is a freakin awesome lizard, i think it would eat both of mine. I've got two leopard geckos, a male thats 3 and a female thats 4. I haven't seen them since I've been in the service, my mom takes care of them for me. I honestly dont have any pictures of late. Google the type of lizard...they all look the same haha.

Anyhow, thanks for the appreciation. You are doing an excellent job and taking all of our criticism very well. I am still waiting to see this thing on a dio and finished, I've got the link saved in my favorites, keep up the hard work.

Thanks a lot Justin! She ain't a carnivore thank goodness. I can't stand the sound of crickets! Anyway, one more important off topic thing before I go back to focusing on "Eva" is that I am now officially an Eagle Scout of the Boy Scouts of America . I just passed my Board of Review at 8:27. I know its but i think its important.

Now to focus back on "Eva". She's just begging me to work on her

Congrats on making Eagle Scout. No small task! A buddy of mine skipped quite a bit class when we were in high-school in order to get all his merits done. The build is looking really great. Only comment I have really, more of suggestion, is that you should wash those tool handles with some black paint. I know most don't use black as a wash, but I have had great effect when trying to replicate wood. Keep up the good work! I will look through what I have and search for some good deals with regards of the flak and crew.

I think this is your best bet for a driver, etc.

This one is older and harder to find, but cheaper.

Both crew sets look fairly good, but the second set looks a little too late in the war? How would I do the black wash? Just thin down the black paint and paint over it or what? Thanks in advance for any deals or offers, and:
Thanks a lot for the congrats! Now I just need to make another major goal to accomplish. Maybe entering a military academy

Tonight I'm going to finish up the suspension with mud but sans pigment.

Thanks for everything,
