Thank you Yvan and Justin.
Justin, I usually just build German AFV's, but I have been wanting to build a T55, someday. I have built a couple of T34 and KV's. I have a built KV II that I will brew up soon. I also plan on building a Syrian Pz IV rusted hulk.

Hi,
I've been inspired and amazed by your work, as anyone who saw this post, I suppose.
In order to try to copy from your work, I've spent tne last coupole of week end digging in junkyards in my neighborood, just to come out with just a couple of reinforcing bars from a building ground next home in order to get the rust I just badly need...
now, at last, I'v got some of the wonderful powder and... how to use it???
of course you don't spry it from your air brush, don't you? and, how do you "fix" it to the model?
do you mix it with white glue, turpentine, what else?
In order to use it like paint do you grind it? (my rust powder is somewhat grainy...) how do you do that?
I know that that's a lot of questions but I hope you will understand I'm like an addict asking to his pusher
ciao

Hi Edoardo
Nice to hear your going to use real rust. I spent a few months collecting different shades of rust, so I know what you went through to get it. I used fine metal sand paper and a scrubbing pad to obtain a fine powder, you could try grinding it down to a powder.
You can apply the rust different ways, It kinda works like using pigments. I have mixed it with rubbing alc/water mix or mineral spirits. When you apply the rust wet it will darken and dry that way. It also depends on how large an area your covering. On the model I applied the rust dry with a soft brush. You can also mix the rust with pigment or pastel chalks. For a dark rust I mix a little black pastel chalk with the rust. The rust should be one of the last things you do on the model so it doesn't rub off when handling the model. I don't use anything to fix the rust to the model. For a thick corroded rust you could apply a medium first then the dry rust on that. On this model I also applied a thick dark wash and while it was somewhat dry, I applied the rust.
I would suggest you try different ways on an old model first to get the hang of it. I'm still trying
different things with the rust and having fun too.
I hope I could help some how, if you have more questions, please ask and I'll try my best to answer them.

Thats some impressive weathering, the way you have the plastic looking like bent sheets of metal is really great

Thank you Rob, for the tips!
actually, I found only rounded objects so it is difficult to meke them rust since the water I spry on them tend to slipp off...
I tried to use iron wool (as I saw somere else) which rusts just fine but when I collect rust, I end up with a mix of rust and nice and shining pieces of new wool too !!!
I guess I'll have to keep on trying...

Rob, your panzer wreck just looks great. Congratulations to this realistic build!
Do you run it in a competition?
Looking forward to your next project...

Guys-
Rob is way too modest to say this himself, but last weekend he entered the Panzer IVE in the Wings & Wheels contest in Chicopee, MA.
A pretty large local show- probably 200+ entries. (my guess). The contest was judged using the "open system" AMPS style.
Rob's Panzer IVE received a well deserved Gold......... and Best of Show.
Well done Rob!

Hey Rob congrats again. Two things. I hope you make the trip to AMPS East in Danbury in September and I hope you bring the two you brought to Chicopee with you. Secondly I hope you make a feature out of this build. I would like to see this one preserved for anyone who wants to try something similar. NIce work. And again CONGRATS!!!!

I am going to wager that we will be seeing a great deal of wrecks inspired by your work rob. I myself would love to create a Sherman wreck. Now that I am thinking about it, perhaps there should be a campaign?

Hi A
Sorry for the disappearing pics, I exceeded my bandwidth for the month, a first for me. It was the over 181,000 hits on my pics that did it. I'll be using my wife's pro account until next month when mine is back up, that's when the pics will show again i hope.
I will be taking some better pics of the completed model soon if that helps. Where there specific pics you need?

Hi Rob,
Thanks for getting back - I'm v interested in how you for the effect of paint crackling/flaking off the rusted hull.
It's a technique I'm keen to learn.
Cheers!

Sorry to bother you all again.
Currently I am working on a Panzer IV project with interior. Though I have plenty of reference books about this topic, I do find it hard to have pictures or information about the interior, especially the frontmost mounting area for the transmission component and the final drives.
As I search through the forum, I found this excellent thread and the interior detail is what I want to know. Would be highly appreciated if one can help me in this area.
Thanks a lot
Alex

Hi Alex'
The reference pics I had on my PC that had some nasty viruses last summer. Every thing I had on the PC was lost so I had to buy a new one and start over again.
Maybe the pics of this model on the first two pages might help you. I will try to find some pics of the very front of the inner hull for you. If I find any, I'll PM you.

Some work deserves to be immortalized. Rob, Is your Panther tank featured anywhere in these forums, or features, on Armorama? Kitmaker wants me to pay $3.49 per month for the ability to enlarge those thumbnails, and, I am not registered for that.
